I would check the 12 V in this area, and PCB tracks to the control lines. Check for corrosion on the fan pins.

Next I would check C28. R126, R127, and R122 (designators and even values may change from model to model). The value of C26 and C27 may not be as stated, and these are also suspect.

I think you will have more luck with this as I have only seen pbmstools work with rs232, I've not seen it run over rs485.

Your panel connection configuration will be 3S2P. First calculate the Voc of 3S2P of your panel specs. I am using JA 270W for this exercise you need to substitute these values with your panel specs, label in the back of your panel. Voc- 37v x 3panels in series = 111v + 7.5%(0°C@STC)= 119.32v well below your inverter Voc of 145v. This model according to model name uses a MPPT Solar charge Controller 3000W 60Amp so above configuration would be the most efficient 3S2P.

Scrap battery prices are down a lot. Used to get R12 per kg for scrap batteries. Going rate is R7 to R6 per kg.

The idea seems a good one. There is one important question. If we look at some data from members with Pylontech batteries that went into over current or over voltage and these were the reasons for not honouring the claims then would you still say leave everything up to the BMS. Also we have seen how many BMSes went faulty and again a loophole was found in the T&Cs.

@Hanks77 I have a 5kW Axpert inverter with 3 x 3000 Pylontech batteries. I have 2 30Amp Epever mpptś conneted in parallel on the battery busbar. The system is running for 18 months with good results. The Epever mppt can be connected to your PC to do settings to match the BMS of the Pylontechs.

Using this Epever MPPT you can connect 3 panels in series and be below the Voc level.
It can charge at up to 50A for a 2500W charging power to your batteries.
You can also use the 30 or 40A Epever. The great thing about the same Epever MPPTs is you can add up to 6 in parallel as long as you load the same battery settings to each one. This makes it very scalable.

Svolt batteries (and other batteries) should work fine without communication if you set the voltages correctly.

The chart I posted in one of my earlier posts in this thread is from Svolt and has the voltages if you want to set it manually and not use communication.

Fedex charges 50 Dollar for a 2.3kg parcel 350mm x 250mm x 150mm. Then you pay 15% Vat + R150 fee for the item to clear at customs.

It really  makes a lot of difference if you home al the time. This is why we can run offgrid.

I can't see this being realistic, tell them "no thanks, you'll do your own setup..." I'd say, but looking at this...
I'd say the qualified electrician would have to do any an all setup that may be required... and get paid for it...

Haha, yes you are right, but I am 10 years out so will have to stick with a helper for now 🙂  On a normal summer day I have no problem at all.  I am doubling my battery capacity with a diy battery build over the holiday so that will leave max 5% of days where I need any grid at all.  Not days like above though.

Yes you can run 2x600W but they must be in parallel not series.
You can always use an external MPPT like I have used and as Chris Louw is currently using to get more PV power to the battery.

No the cable from the Pylontech goes to the Axpert. The Epever is set up to charge the battery to programed settings. There is a lot of parrameters in the program and controls beter than the Axpert. That is why I use the Epever as the master and the Axpert is running at 0.2v les than the Epever. The Epever  does have a over voltage notification and switch of the mppt should that occur. I set the Axpert to 50A max so that the battery max Amp is not exceeded. The system  is monitored  by Solarassistant and running for more  than  2 years without  any  problems.
The benefits of this is that Axpert is running at a lower temperature. Power is avialable for more time during the day. Better flow of power when high loads is switched on.As we are running offgrid this is a great benefit.

@Jethro Penny Some of the RCT Axpert inverters have a power saving mode. Check setting 04 . Set to default SdS. SEN is powersaving mode.

@Coulomb Solar assistant does display the highest and lowest voltage off the cells of each battery. This bring some comfort that I will know if something goes wrong with the batteries. The external mppt I use does also give a warning and record if safe voltage is exceeded.

    Ja nee.
I follow a simple rule of using the optimum voltage as specified on the spec sheets, that way you are not only protected from over voltage but also run  the mppt's at their optimal power point.
Some decent inverter brands will always show on their spec sheets what the optimal voltages are for their mppt's.
    Sunsynk 5k - 370V
    Sunsynk 8k - 370V
    Solis 5k - 330V
    Solis 8k - 330V
Stick with those voltages and you are 99% safe
Over paneling on the voltage side ( Without Knowing What You Are Doing ) is for brave souls who have lots of cash to burn.

This is 100% normal for Pylontech afaik.  The cell balancers kick in at around 88-90% and then charging current drops, and the SOC gets stuck for up to an hour or more where it will suddenly jump and be "full".   How long it does this for depends on the charging current and how out of balance the pack is.
Have you not noticed this before?  This is mine.  Has done it from day 1.

We recently mover to WC from JHB. MY array is 30x250w but facing east/west ( 40%west and 60%east split) meaning cannot really compare to the north facing side panels other people have We are off grid . Don't have a problem with power supply. We had to switch off one inverter over night in winter  to save some power for the morning. Generally I am happy being off grid .
