The Deye inverter is not as good as the Sunsynk when it comes to support, usability and software.
I've had excellent on-site support from Shabir, the Deye rep in Johannesburg. Really can't fault it.

The fridge guy said that there was a short between live and Neutral..
Was it a pre-existing condition or is it something the installer of the Goodwe worked on?

THIS is what caused me to chuck my Goodwe.
The rotten local support and the inability to talk to the inverter without sacrificing virgins and doing a rain dance. -
This all is NOT a temporary SNAFU. This is our lives for the foreseeable future!

Sorry for sorta spamming this thread, but you ALL need to watch this:

So, yesterday afternoon Shitty Power decided to loadshed us from 12h00 to 16h30. Only, as ever, it never quite works out that way...
My wife and I are Netflixin and chillin with the aircons running and I decide to go forage a pizza at about 17h00. I reverse out of my drive and it looks like a scene from Walking Dead, neighbours roaming the street gazing in confusion towards the sky. Naturally, being neighbourly, I wind down my window and ask what's going on? "The power hasn't come back on", they tell me...
Eventually Shitty Power figured out how to turn it back on at about 22h00.
My question: Where have these people been for the last 20 years? Is it only dawning on them now that we're in the crap? -

Thank you, so it would be cheaper to base it on your low water usage.
Exactly. I disconnected municipal water years ago, and have now been hit with this charge based on stand size which hurts and offends me deeply. Next step is to process my own sewage and tell them to lump that charge also.

@Peter Topp Do you mind elaborating on this?
If I can jump in... they base your sewage charge on your water consumption else they use your stand size... which can become silly when you have a large stand but are only two people.

Thanks for the details Paul. I've called and sent Shabir a message explaining my issue, and will let you know when I hear back from him. I have version 3854 installed...
So Shabir comes out with a whole machine and stuff to update the firmware. It takes about 15 minutes.

I am still waiting for Deye to respond about my firmware version.
Shabir +27 (082) 504-4510. Located in Johannesburg is the Deye Technical Support in SA. He came out to my property and updated firmware for me in December.
I believe my firmware is ver 3874, if that sounds correct.

This is Shabir's number +27 (***redacted by mods***). He is located in Johannesburg.

So... we had Shabir (local technical expert for Deye) out at my property in December fiddling with settings to do exactly this.
At first glance the generator needs to be able to power the ENTIRE system (load + charging). Even though we set the power to be drawn from the inverter well below the generator's rated output it still doesn't work. Shabir mentioned that the problem is likely that the Automatic Voltage Regulator on the genny causes the frequency to shift too rapidly for the inverter's liking... so the inverter puts load on the genny, the genny responds by accelerating the throttle which shifts the frequency outside of bounds and the inverter drops the load. This is at my office.
At my house I have a site genny (no AVR) connected. By fiddling with the throttle adjustment I can pin the frequency so that the genny stays connected to the inverter under load.
I don't know if this is the total answer. -

Yep, why fix something thats been proven to last.
Victron have been using that design for 20yrs as well, the newer multiplus II and smaller multi's are using more modern manufacturing methods which result in lower standby power, however I would guess the circuit designs are very similar.
Not to dis Victron. They are magnificent... pricey, but rock solid. However, that damned big transformer has a down side. They require more batteries than comparably specced systems in order to start up.
So they start out twice the price of other systems and then the money starts to really get out of hand!
Just my experience. Your mileage may vary. -

Thanks all. It was actually plain to see (once I removed the clamp. The clamp has an arrow indicating the direction in which energy should flow. However, the installer probably found that the clamp was difficult to install the correct way around, so he just took the easy way out. I've managed to get the clamp out, but I'm struggling to install it again. I am sure that was the problem, but will give feedback later. Thanks a lot!
See my earlier comment about "attached correctly"...
Glad you got sorted.

I would imagine that your inverter is measuring the power going into it, AND the power going out of it. Do you have the clamp meter attached correctly?
I had this happen on my (previous) Goodwe inverter when I went offgrid.

Agree. I wasn’t suggesting that it’s a problem but rather that he’s got enough solar power.

Sunsynk 5.5 more than enough for my needs
Meh... Max AC output of 5.5kw...
Great until you're running your washing machine (1.?kw), tumble drier (~3kw) and someone puts on the kettle. -

I've had similar problems with the Goodwe tripping while the grid was down, I was able to fix it by changing from general to off grid mode in basic settings in PV master (obviously making sure anything drawing a "big" current turned off).
As extra precaution I connected router to a backup system to ensure wifi remained on even if power failed.
My initial problem... and it pertained for the entire period I used the Goodwe... was that it solemnly refused to talk to my router (and NOBODY was able to offer assistance to make this right - in fact, my last comms with David Havenga was that he couldn't help me if he couldn't use SEMS). I never used PV Master, preferring the EZManage app but they were almost identical.

Why did you go Deye and not Sunsync? I believe they're the same box, but Sunsync has better software??
Is the Deye and Sunsync support guy the same person?
It's six of one and half a dozen of the other. TBH the Deye is the inverter that was presented to me by Inverter Warehouse. My investigations revealed no reason to NOT go with Deye.
The difference is in the firmware. The Sunsynk has a more 'Westernised' UI. The support guys are supposedly separate, but Shabir tells me he does support Sunsynk also.
