FixAMess got a reaction from Powerforum Store in SOLIS S6 6KW ADVANCED HYBRID GIVEAWAYWhy do we speak of incompatible batteries, should we rather be speaking of incompatible BMS's? The battery cells are dumb, the BMS is what does the talking.
I would expect that if the HUBBLE uses a PACE BMS, then any battery that uses a PACE BMS will work provided the BMS is loaded with the same protocols ?

FixAMess got a reaction from PsyWulf in SOLIS S6 6KW ADVANCED HYBRID GIVEAWAYIt's good for consumers that we now have more options. The popular brands have become over priced and their wsrranties, support dont match the "swap/replace if failed" option.

FixAMess got a reaction from Yellow Measure in SOLIS S6 6KW ADVANCED HYBRID GIVEAWAYIf Solis is clever with their pricing, 2 x 5kW Solis is a real contender vs 1x8kW Sunsync. Of course one needs to consider 2x5kW luxpower as well.
The big question is, can Solis be remotely controlled by and end user?

FixAMess reacted to Powerforum Store in SOLIS S6 6KW ADVANCED HYBRID GIVEAWAYThe Short Answer YES.
And the owner has full control of the inverter not the installer the owner has to give the installer permission to make changes.
There are Installer level function that is limited but majority of the important functions are all available for the end user.
Also the installer can not switch your inverter off or block it remotely! Neither can Solis Unless you report it Stolen..

FixAMess reacted to cvschalk in Curious MPPT behavior@rfl unfortunately this is an issue specific to the Sunsynk and Deye MPPTs. They dont actually do Maximum Power Point Tracking at all, but rather Local Power Point Tracking. I've been trying to motivate them to fix this issue in FW, so that the bypass diodes are used as intended.
All of their competitors (Vitec, Sungrow, SolarX, SAM, Fronius, Sofar Solar, SKE/ Huawei Luna, etc.) have special algorithms to handle partial shading - mostly by performing a periodic (eg. every 30min) global Voltage scan to find the maximum power point. I can just imagine how many millions of kWhs goes missing every year because of this issue. And the most shocking part is that most installers seem to think this is "normal shading behavior".

FixAMess got a reaction from Morena in Luxpower + Hubble versus Kodak OGS + Kodak BatteryThe SA public are being hoodwinked by installers. The installers push a brand of inverter that suits them, not necessarily what's in the best interest of their clients. The sunsync vs luxpower point above confirms this. It used to be Victron or nothing, now it's sunsync!
Who really needs a bidirectional inverter. Most installs actually limit the feed to grid anyway...
-
I have Victron and happy with my choice. Sunsynk was in its infancy at the time. Retrospectively, I could have left R40K in my pocket had I gone Sunsynk.

1C is a nice to have, not really necessary IMHO. I'm not convinced that one needs to draw 100A from a battery. How long will a 5Kwh 1C battery last you if you draw 100A? less than an hour? and how long is loadshedding? Just because a Porsche 911 can do 300km/h, doesn't mean everyone will want to drive that fast. You will be more comfortable driving a VW Golf GTI at 160km/h. You will still have a smile on the face when you accelerate to that speed. My point is, if a battery can discharge at 1C, good for it. Will you discharge at 1C, that is the question and how often? people's needs differ, some are happy to discharge 10A or even less, for the duration of loadshedding. There is no racing there, while some want to race and discharge at 100A for god's sake I still don't know why one will want to do that😂

FixAMess got a reaction from Antonio de Sa in Battery changed from 120AH to 100AH with new firmwareThis is why I tested the batteries I import before making promises as to their capacity!
A 100Ah battery, tested to depletion, had a capacity of 107Ah, but it's sold as a 100Ah battery.
You probably find those batteries came from a different batch and the "new" batch is not at 120Ah!
We just assume that a battery sold as 120Ah is in fact capable of delivering 120Ah, we take the sticker as being gospel, but do we actually test?
Unfortunately, there's no testing body that verifies the data on the battery stickers is correct.

If I may be the devils advocate here.....
I have seen too often where people pair one pylon 3.5kw....or lower to a 5kw or larger inverter and then cry wolf when their battery packs up and the supplier does not want to honour the claim.
Get with it guys, you must at least match the battery to the inverter,s capacity.....as a bare minimum.

FixAMess reacted to Scorp007 in Lux power inverter work aroundIt does not have non essentials AFAIK. It is meant to sell to the grid. You can see where I underlined the 2 modes in red that you set it as a Hybrid for exporting to grid.
We get so used to the Sunsynk method of having both.

FixAMess reacted to igg in 32 x 2nd life LiFePO4 ~110AHMy assumption is that the outlier (98AH) was weak to start with. When I originally purchased them I didn't have the tools to test the capacity, so I trusted what they were sold as (~120AH). Given they were 2nd life already, I doubt this was the case, and they were definitely NOT matched cells. You're also missing the extra 6AH in your calcs, as this is what a manufacturer will test to. I only tested down to the typical low-voltage cutoff (2.9v ea, i.e., ~47v). I did test a bunch of them down to 2.5v (incl. the outlier which has 104AH) and they all had an extra 6-7AH extra, which puts them all much closer to the original 120AH.
Regarding the cycle count, that's what the Victron BMV reported. I don't actually know how it counts cycles, but I suspect it resets at 100%, and I didn't always cycle to 100%, and would sometimes cycle between 60 and 80% for instance. This was part of an ESS setup, in a 16s2p config, so there's no reason for the cells to be loaded differently aside from their different internal resistances and mismatched nature of 2nd life cells.

FixAMess got a reaction from WannabeSolarSparky in Hubble AM-2 - Battery diedI import batteries with PACE BMS. On a new 10kWh battery we found the BMS to be faulty.
A quick call to my supplier and a new BMS was immediately posted. I received and fitted the BMS a day later. No issues with warranty, no arguing etc.
One cannot just "wipe" the BMS, they are password protected so your electrician would need the software and password to change BMS logs etc. I doubt if he has this.
If the poster likes he can contact me and I'll see if I can source him a new BMS at his cost.
