Posted November 10, 20213 yr Hi. I received a notification from the city's contractors that that my current prepaid meter is to be replaced with a "split" prepaid meter, apparently due to the fact that I have a solar installation. Does anyone have an idea of what this is?
November 10, 20213 yr Its just a meter that 'blocks' backfeeding power to the grid ,and if you do feed in it will charge you for it afaik.
November 10, 20213 yr Author I was just sent a photo indicating it is an Ontec enlight SIENNA prepaid meter. Does anyone have any experience with this, and if they are prone to tripping? I have a SUNSYNK inverter and not feeding into grid.
November 11, 20213 yr Which council are you with? If at the City of Cape Town, then you probably ticked the wrong box during your application. No, they don't trip, but CoCT will charge you R10k for the replacement. (More if three phase, etc.) Edited November 11, 20213 yr by el3venth

Seems a new meter is free when you are BLOCKING feedback. (single phase) My application is going in today .... so would certainly hope I was given the correct information.
November 11, 20213 yr Author I am with CoCT and double-checked that I ticked the box "no excess to be exported to CoCT electricity's distribution network"

What was the time frame from your initial application to approval and then the new meter ?
