Hi. Am I correct in assuming the best day for solar will be the 21st Dec?

Is this not the day where we get the most sun?

Does angle of the panels come into play at all?

Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Layman's 2c speaking under correction.

21 Dec is the longest day of the year, but whether it's the best day for solar will also depend on other factors like weather conditions, clear skies, temperature of the panels, etc. Obviously clear skies and cool panels will give most generation. Joburg tends to be flatter throughout the year, but chances are in Prince Albert you'll get more summer generation with drier summer conditions.

Most solar generation on that day, the 21st, will be if the panels are firstly facing Northwards, and secondly when viewed from the side, at an angle to the vertical equal to your degrees of latitude (33.2 degrees South) plus an extra 23.5 degrees (for the sun being over the Tropic of Capricorn) = 56.7 degrees.

You'll suffer in Winter with lower generation if you keep it there though.
