Posted January 19, 20223 yr Hi all, I just bought a new sunmagic 3kva 24v 3000w Mppt inverter (MP3024/24v3000va). My question is what is the Max Pv Array Power? OR what is the Max PV Wattage on this inverter? I need to buy the solar panel, so i need to know what max pv i can buy.
January 19, 20223 yr Ah. I didn't see this post before asking for exactly the above in another thread. This is a clone, so basically all bets are off. But it's likely to be a copy of an Axpert, so the 60 A will refer to the battery charging current. Usually you can multiply this by 25 (typical battery voltage) to obtain the maximum charge power. In this case, 25 x 60 = 1500 W. You can "overclock" this by about 20%, so x1.2 = 1800 W max. I note that it has an unusual Voc maximum, so keep this in mind when deciding how many panels you can put in series. If they actually improved the Voltronic solar charger, then you could probably use 3S in many cases. But if they're just lying about the 145 V maximum design that they copied, then many modern panels can't be wired 3S, you have to stick with 2S.
January 19, 20223 yr Author Hi Coulomb, thanks for the quick response and the advice as well. really appreciate it.
April 12, 20222 yr The sticker on the side of the MP3024/3000VA states VOC as 150VDC but the specs inside the manual that comes with it states only 60VDC for the 24V system , only the 48V system shows VOC as 150VDC. Had the PW3024/3000VA before and the manual for both PWM and MMPT is identical. Even though one branded FiveStar and the other SunMagic. I could also not see any performance difference between the two. Generally disappointed as it does not perform as expected.
April 13, 20222 yr Pity this clone does not perform well. Some of them only have minor bugs. What puzzles me is why we see so many problems with branded Voltronic units on the forum?

I think it's just that they are such good value that they are quite popular (though perhaps not as popular as they once were), and there are many owners who never have a problem and as a result never post on this forum.
April 18, 20222 yr Author Hi, I'm struggling to connect the sunmagic inverter 3kva to watchpower software, the software it does see the com port. But doesn't show under the local connection. Not sure what I'm missing. Is there other software that I can use?
April 19, 20222 yr 6 hours ago, Norm said: I'm struggling to connect the sunmagic inverter 3kva to watchpower software, I'm guessing that the Sunmagic is a clone, Watchpower is written by Voltronic Power. So the two aren't necessarily compatible, despite appearances. That said, from the left pane it appears that you need to select COM4 on Watchpower.
April 19, 20222 yr Author Thanks Coulomb, The com port 4 it is selected on the watchpower. For some reason the inverter it is not appearing on the software
April 19, 20222 yr 5 hours ago, Norm said: For some reason the inverter it is not appearing on the software Some of the clones use only the "default" serial number of something like 55355535553535, and I think that Watchpower may ignore that particular serial number. I think it's one of the ways that they irritate the clone manufacturers and their customers.
July 11, 20222 yr that sunmagic is something so terrible i bought mine last year bt iy seems it reads 12v battery while there is 4 of them in series and in settup menu the select icon also not working to make any changes. Also its menu has only 15 selection which is far much different from other legit ones.....Any one who managed to make it work please help?????

There cannot be 4 batteries in series if batteries are 12V each. Some of these clone you have to use the per battery of 12V setting which will be times 2 for actual setting.

September 13, 20222 yr I have a fivestar hy 3024pwm 3kwv which after a month packed up. No warrenty I am now told. Where can I have it repaired in Cape Town South Africa. It is a pure sinewave + solar controller + ups.

See if you can find someone on the forum that do repair Axpert/Mecer in CT as they might be able to help you.

September 21, 20222 yr Good day, I have sunmagic inverter 3000w 24v,even if when batteries are fully charged it takes 15min and turns off. Someone said it’s iccorect setting, I’m wondering if someone can help. Stanly joburg
October 22, 20222 yr I’m also looking for the settings on a 5kva sunmagic hybrid inverter I think this must also be a clone. Does anyone have a gel battery settings I get error code 134 at random times I have 4 x 200ah sosolar battery’s

Low capacity due to cycling over a period. Check the voltage in the display when under load. You will then see it comes down all the time until it switches off. You could also see an error 04 in display before switching off.
October 22, 20222 yr I also got a sunmagic hybrid 5kva inverter. It works fine for 3months. This morning it does not charge the batteries. I hot 133v and no amps from my aray in full sunlight. But when i plug it in. It start charging with eskom power. What could be wrong with the inverter. It dont charge from sokar panels. Thanks for the help

That's very high for a 145V max PV model, and very low for a 450/500V max PV model (assuming that they copied those specifications). It may be that they use cheaper, lower specification parts, and the Solar Charge Controller has failed, either the electrolytic capacitors or the MOSFETs that they protect. If it's a 145V max model, I have a partial schematic trace here.

Thanks for the help @Jgjg that inverter is a nightmare. I also have it and it did the same. A not so elegant work around if you haven't come up with one, would be to install a switch between feed and inveter to manually turn your AC charge off when the sun is at its best. That way your PV will kick in and charge batteries and even run your loads. I did that for sometime as a workaround and it worked. It's not the best but will help you charge batteries using PV and save some cash when the sun is available. 🙈 Just don't forget to switch back to AC when sun is low or you start using batteries and might end up in the dark if power went off.
