Posted January 31, 20223 yr Hi I have a three phase normal residential setup. I currently have a growatt 5kva off grid inverter and 2.4kwh battery. It works great as a backup for the loads I need. I now want to add more panels but due to my small battery and off grid inverter it seems like the savings are minimal. a friend suggested I get a grid tied inverter which I can then connect to the system for the solar but keep the off grid as my backup. Can this still be compliant and will the off grid inverter cause islanding? would I need to put all my loads on one phase to get the benefit?
February 13, 20223 yr Just ensure that the Growatt only powers up the portion of the split DB. The grid tied would then be connected on the portion that only has power when the grid is on. What does complicate things is the fact that you have 3 phase. You can google "Beware the Axpert........." and view the video on YouTube from Green pro Consulting. This shows how to use a grid tied and back up.
