I have been looking for lithium ion batteries for a new solar setup for a while now. I'm about to buy some pylontech us3000 batteries, but the found the following batteries by clicking on a google add:

http://solarenergyrsa.co.za/?product=12kwh-lithium-ion-batteries-with-10yrs-warranty-last-chance-yeah-end-stock-clearance-sale-50-off

Now I know if something is too good to be true, it probably is. So this is either a scam or stolen batteries, but I'm intrigued if is it's somehow legit.

So who's gonna buy one and let us know how it went? 😂

I always check what address the site publish. If you can't see it on google maps then I am not using the site.

This site has an address of "East London". That is to vague for google maps, so it's a NO GO.

Scam!

Man this guy just doesn't give up, keeps on registering new sites, similar names, same prices and same pictures.

He must be successful in a way to continue like this..

Maybe the admins must put a pin/sticky somewhere...?

The MO is generally the same.

Batteries with 10 year warranties, at 50% discount as "end of year" (or "end of yeah" when they get sloppy with copy/paste), black friday, christmas, load shedding special, stock clearance sale. .... often with a nice big count down timer reminding you how close you are to losing out on the amazing special (or there are only 2 units left...).

The scam likely has 2 components. Some people eventually get (clearly used/abused, identifying info removed, no manual etc.) batteries (? stolen cell tower leochs etc.?). The second component is probably letting people pay via EFT/cash deposit and just not supplying any goods. (gumtree/olx/facebook etc will have a number of these ads).

They seem to do some homework and likely also take note of this particular forum since the newer site/s specifiy the "online only shop" part (too many people started asking about addresses and google street view?) so maybe the 50% discount will change to 45%....and the warehouse move to Askham... They also appear to have people posting positive reviews on hellopeter to counter negative comments. Many of the web addresses seem chosen to look like existing companies but with a strategic hyphen or variance of spelling that one will easily gloss over. Also they do not seem to bother to setup a mail account on the domain so fancy web domain only operates via gmail...

From info in the public domain here is a sample with some unifying themes and some info that is useful to cross reference with google when the next add/site pops up..

Great work on your post, I did a similar one way back including some of the info above.. He waits for a shortage in Lithiums or for load shedding and then hit with a new site, been doing that for about 2 years now... same MO every time

I still have screenshots with his name next to a few of the mentioned domains above, now something has changed and that info can be hidden.

The top registrar changed the privacy of the owner details. You now have to query the registrar where the domain is held to get any contact info.

Wow 12kwh for only 31k. 😂😂

I wish I came here before ignorantly buying from the site. Interesting that I did get a brand new Inverter but the battery that was delivered was definitely used.

When I contacted them initially they were more than willing for me to send it back for a new one but at that point I decided to keep what I had. I have  subsequently tried to find a contact for Christiaan and James who have now disappeared and don't answer their numbers. An expensive lesson to be sure.

how did I find out that I was delivered with stolen batteries?
Well, such batteries are not just simple devices with 2 terminals like car batteries. These are sophisticated systems with built in microprocessor controlled battery management system, with display, keyboard and communication connectors. On the front panel is a warning label: Read the instructions before use. But there was no instruction delivered with the batteries. Not thinking of any bad I visited the website of the manufacturer LEOCH in the attempt to download the instructions. But I could not find them. So I wrote a message to please send me the instructions. The next day I got an answer from the representative agent of LEOCH in South Africa, asking me the serial numbers of the batteries and from whom I bought them. I wondered what the serial numbers have to do with the instructions and I couldn't find any on the equipment. He then explained to me that such battery are stolen from cellphone installations since this type of batteries are exclusively sold to cellphone networks. And that these are shipped with instructions, with communication cable and a software cd.
Then I found the following video on internet:https://youtu.be/P2gSsN8NlRg.
I immediately requested the Installer JLS-Solar in Voorbay/Mosselbay to take them back and to reimburse the money. He reclaimed them the same day but with reimbursing it went not so fast. Finally he payed back in 2 parts up to R2000.
I then bought and got delivered replacement from the official importer Averge Ltd. They are technically the same as the stolen ones but light gray instead black and with slightly changed front panel.

Hi All

Came across this discussion and just wanted to ask if this looks like the same Scam? Again, Prices look to good to be true and the above links are dead so no way to compare.

https://solarcycle.co.za/product-category/lithium-batteries/

Has anyone dealt with this crowed? Domain was also registered on the 3rd August.

Thx.

Looks like a scam site.

Also, I see http://solarenergyrsa.co.za is now dead.

Just to add to your topic. Don't know if it is the same guy, but from what i have read here, it looks like it. It is called Green Sky Energy. Every thing is fishy. went through his about and policy pages. There were references to The Power Store. So I phoned The Power Store and spoke with Philip Hampton. He said he has not heard of these guys, but have dealt with something similar from guys in Cape Town. Their address in Wadeville is also fake. So stay away from them at https://www.greenskyenergy.co.za/
