Bobster. Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I keep stats of how my meter behaves, which helps me quantify savings and to know how my system has performed. Lately they don't look so good, but I think of all the overcast weather we've had. Is this just me, or was it not a great summer for PV? PS. I live in Gauteng Quote
MdF Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 (edited) Not a great summer for PV generation in Gauteng this year for sure. The La Nina impact this season was significant with the country experiencing generally wetter and cooler impacts. Spent many days looking at weekly forecasts to see days on end overcast and raining. But I suppose we should be thankful for the rain as Vaal Dam has seen the most consecutive days over 100% full since 2004 at more than 119 now. A very good position to be in heading in to winter. Bobster. Posted April 9, 2022 Author Posted April 9, 2022 If the rain lets up. I've had nearly 80mm this month, and it's only the 9th. But maybe we should consider it the silver lining in the cloud. Quote
Kalahari Meerkat Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 You oakes on the eastern half of the country are probably measuring your rainfall in meters by now, here still in mm... :O) either way, the beginning of this solar cycle brought the predicted above average rainfall now for the 2nd rainy season... and with it more cloudy conditions (obviously) and thus worse energy production from the solar panels, here in the Kalahari, we covered ourselves, but if the extension lead to the neighbour didn't exist, there would have been a few days where a genny to charge batteries would have been a necessity. Anyway, next rainy season should still be above average, before things calm down/dry out a bit more again... Quote

TimCam Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Not a good PV season for sure in KZN area. Winters are normally clear skies but shorter sun hours, and worse angle. Quote
P1000 Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I'm also in Gauteng. So far it looks like I'm on ~97% of the calculated average. So just about on par. Quote
FixAMess Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 It has been a "low sunlight" summer...BUT, if the sun is out, the garden needs watering, the pool needs filling! With so much rain i pay less on water but more on electricity...I'd rather have full dams so all is good. Antonio de Sa 1 Quote

My results seems to be close to last summer but actually better. March turned out quite bad as a tree shot up in height and I only got to trim it a week ago. March 2020 was bad due to load shedding affecting my grid tied. Results from March 2020 on a kWh/kW installed PV. All PV produced is used in full due to load connected. LS does affect my yield slightly at times but normally does not affect the average a lot. It's part of life Current average at work on the genny hour meter is 2 hours a week during the last 30 months during office hours. This figure includes power failures.
