Advice on connecting Sunsynk Inverter to internet - network cable option?

Recommended Posts

My parents-in-law are installing a Sunsynk 5kW Hybrid Inverter + Hubble battery to assist them through load shedding.

I see that there are some options in connecting the Sunsynk Inverter to different apps (SolarMan 2.0 or SunSynk Logger).

Can I please have some feedback on these two apps, and how they are able to both monitor the state of charge and demand, and which of them allow you to manage the inverter remotely.

I would also like to know how the Sunsynk Inverter connncts  to the internet - I see a Wifi Dongle, but can you also connect via a LAN Cable to your router? Is there a need for an extra add-on, or is it part of the inverter?

Thanks for your guidance!

Just make sure that the inverter you are buying comes with the new Sunsynk dongle ,it can connect to your router via lan whereas the old dongle can not.

Thanks for the heads up! I will ensure that it comes with a LAN port.

I assume then that this would then be connected via LAN cable to an internet router. This would then allow the Inverter to talk to the cloud....

How then can the inverter be monitored from your phone?

Many thanks

Sunsynk has an app you can download.

Hi Nexuss...

Looking at the manuals, I see that the Sunsynk App requires an Installer to set this up, and give the user specific permissions to access the system.

I am looking at installing a system at my parents-in-law and my own home. Would this be a problem to manage more than one installation from the same App? Unfortunately, you can't play with the app unless you have an installation set up already, and the descriptions are rather light as to what you can do.

I also want to know if the Sunsynk App will allow you to modify any settings without being physically there. This is important, as I won't be able to go and assist my parents-in-law every time there is a tweak needed, and I am not certain that they will have the knowledge to change the settings.

If someone is using this App, please would you share what you can do, possibly with a screenshot or two?
Many thanks!

You can manage multiple inverters at multiple locations from the desktop app, have not tried on mobile app yet.
Only the Sunsynk dongle can do this afaik, currently you need to purchase it seperatly, one for each inverter (about R2k each)

That's awesome... I really like all the detailed information that you can find on the desktop / browser system.

I note that the last image shows that there are sliders to activate / deactivate items - can this be done remotely via the browser / app?

Thanks so much!

yes, you can do those settings remotely from the sunsynk desktop portal, you can login from anywhere in the world and monitor and change settings.

Whoop Whooop! That sounds really helpful and exactly what I will need to do to help out the parents-in-law!
Great stuff!

Both Sunynk and Solarman Dongles allow you to manage inverter(s) remotely - both via app and web portal of some sort. The Sunsynk is easier though to get this setup. Solarman connects via Wifi only while Sunsynk can do both i believe. Another system you may want to look into is Solar Assistant if you are so inclined

AFAIK, the current SunSynk dongle only has WiFi.
The manual says it supports Ethernet, but when I opened mine, it's WiFi only - same as SolarMan.

If you want more comprehensive information / integration to Home-Assistant / Node-Red / mqtt consider Solar-Assistant or kellerza's pluigin for Home-Assistant.

Solar-Assistant supports SunSynk & Hubble AM-2 and also integrates with Home-Assistant /  Node-Red / mqtt out of the box.
See https://solar-assistant.io

Kellerza's plugin integrates Home-Assistant to SunSynk using an RS458 modbus cable.
See PowerForum

github repo: https://github.com/kellerza/sunsynk

Both SolarMan and SunSynk support multiple plants.
SunSynk dongle allows remote access.
SolarMan dongle does not allow remote access unless you email them and ask.
Neither allows for you do do your own firmware updates, but you request firmware via sunsynk.org which requires a dongle.

IMHO, RIOT/CloudLink is still in development and lacks features.

Thank you for the very clear response...
It certainly provides me with some good info to research more on the topic!
Product websites always oversell the practical capabilities of their items. Its a problem that can only be addressed through existing users giving advice such as yours - many thanks!

I am still waiting on quotes to hopefully get my own installation in place.... tricky times with Stage 4 Loadshedding.

My Sunsynk app is no longer working. It appears to me that it is no longer connected to my WiFi. Everytime I try to connect it I just get the message that it is configuring the device and nothing happens . Can anyone help

I had the same issue a little while ago. Disconnected from Wifi and did not reconnect.

Google search gave me this video, which might help you reconnect:

Sunsynk logger app works well, you can monitor the PV production and manage the settings from your phone also. Sunsynk logger should come with the new inverters. No need to purchase it as an extra.
