Hi

With winter upon us I wanted to check what is most economical heating solution? We use gas space heaters which allows me to control consumption but I find it to be neither cheap nor effective.

We've been looking at fireplaces but the upfront investment seems quite high and fuel costs are also expensive.

Snug up in bed with a blond or an electric blanket - LOL.

I hear a toaster also works well for heating the bath 😆

Otherwise, make sure your roof is properly insulated, if not do that. If you have done that air conditioners might be a viable option.

Yes we dumped our gas fireplace.  It chows gas and all the heat goes out the chimney.

We now have a fireplace/stove thing.  The better ones use less wood and are more efficient.  Keep in mind that the air used by a fireplace needs to come from somewhere and also be heated.  That is why a stove unit is more efficient than a open fireplace and the Canadian use unit fed with air direct from outdoor.

We have now taken a step back in time and collecting wood in summer to keep us warm in winter.  Actually nice to own a chainsaw and axe and use it once in a while.

PS  The most cost effective heating solution is to have sun into your home during the day heating the structure,  having it as air tight as possible not allow cold air in, and also well insulated so you lose less of the heat.
