RichardZA Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Hi all I watched a video recently on this and was wondering if anyone has seen this type of heater in SA. I'm interested in this form of heating as I have a lot of excess solar power during the day that I'd like to use to heat up the walls/floors of the house and that heat can then gently emit after sunset. Currently when the sun goes down I have to turn off my oil heater or pay for electricity - which I don't like to do. My house is just badly designed when it comes to the best form of infrared heating (the sun) and it's ironic that it's hot outside and cold inside in the middle of a winter day. Quote
P1000 Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 (edited) Looks like those garbage panels you get at checkers. They are optimal for maximizing losses - you are probably better off with your oil heater, which I suspect is an "infrared" heater in exactly the same way/band that these are. You do get infrared heaters in SA, but they are not the same as what is advertised in your video, and work very well in some scenarios. That said, you will be hard-pressed to beat an aircon for energy usage. Edited May 8, 2022 by P1000 Buyeye 1 Quote
RichardZA Posted May 9, 2022 Author Posted May 9, 2022 hehe thanks. I don't think they are "wall heaters". Noted on the aircon not a bad idea Quote

An aircon is first choice as @P1000 said. The problem is scale, compared to the sun a 2000 watt unit will barely heat the walls a significant amount. The way it works is that it heats you immediately after you put it on. Quote
