Good day,

I'm new to solar and have been drop into the deep end. Please HELP 🙂

In an effort to ensure my solar installation was done correctly and that there are no issues with registration, I opted to go with an official installer. Quote, design, purchase, install, configure and do the registration with COCT, the whole 10 yards. Everything went well (barring a few misconfigurations) until the City of Cape Town registration. This is where we were informed that the inverter was not on the COCT approved inverter list. Not to bore you with the back and forth between the installer and I the last 6 months, lets just say its not going anywhere.

I have now decided to just go ahead and purchase an approved inverter and install it. So here is where I need some assistance, like many a noob before me, I am going to ask the very controversial question about inverter options. The following two in particular caught my eye. Mainly because of price point (~20K) and their rater power are closely matched to my existing one, which beside me not being able to register it, works 100%. Amazing unit.

Inverter Replacement Options:

1. Sunsynk 5KW - Sunsynk 5kW 1P Hybrid PV inverter 48V

2. Solis 6KW - Solis Energy Storage 6kW Hybrid 5G Inverter with DC switch

Current System:

1 x KODAK OG-Plus 5.48 5kW 48V

2 x Pylon US3000C 3.5kWh Li-Ion Solar Battery

6 x Canadian Solar 445W Solar Panels

Fully integrated into my DB for Critical loads which the system has been more than adequate for.

I suspect when replacing the inverter, I will also need to change the Solar panel config. The inverter is measuring over 20Amp at times where the above inverters have  a max of 11-13amp per MPPT. They originally adjusted the solar panel config (amount on series vs parallel) because the Voltage was to high for the Kodak inverter. I will most likely have some more questions as this progresses, I'm just keen on getting the correct inverter to start with.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @QuentinF,

I can provide feedback on the Sunsynk inverters, I have the 8Kw installed at my house and fully registered with COCT.

I am very happy with the Sunsynk mainly due to how easy it is to change settings and how much information is available about it on YouTube by the actual company that manufactures it.

Let me know if you have any other questions?

Regards,

Julius
