Hi all,

I'd like some advice on the best way to setup my hybrid inverter system, as I can't quite figure out the optimal settings. I have a Sofar Solar 6kw hybrid inverter with 2x Pylontech US3000c batteries and 5000w of solar panels.

When the system is on "Self Use Mode", it uses solar, then batteries, then grid. However, the problem is at night when there's load shedding and the batteries get depleted either before or during. The "time of use" then allows you to schedule times to use solar/grid to set SOC etc...

What are the recommended settings to use and how does one optimise these settings to ensure that you can use solar to full benefit, but then don't get stranded during rainy/load shedding days or nights?

For the best settings you need to know what your use profile is during the after sun period. I use a sun hours forecast for the next week. As an example we had 8hrs per day of sunshine the last 2 days. Battery charged well from PV. Today and tomorrow seems like 7 and 6hts sun. Batteries will charge average. Fri and Sat only 1 and 3hrs sun. This those 2 evenings I will set my own timer to be on bypass during the night say from 02h00 to preserve battery power in case of St 4-6 LS.

When trying to maximise your PV use you will sacrifice power saved during the night to be ready for LS. The last thing you want is to deep discharge during the night and get 06h-08h30 LS and then have only 1h of sunshine like on Sat in Gauteng. This is my management I use between sunshine hours and LS hours as well as time we have LS.

Not easy to give the best way for someone else.

Thanks, I appreciate your feedback. Really difficult to say - we try to use use appliances etc during the day and have minimal usage apart from lights, TV etc at night. But there are the odd anomalies though. To give you an idea, here is our production and consumption stats from the last few days.

I've mainly been using time of use mode with the following settings daily:

00:00-06:00 SOC 40% at 1500w charge

15:00-18:00 SOC 80% at 1000w charge

18:00-00:00 SOC 50% at 1500w charge

An electrician suggested this to me, but I don't know if it's maximising time off the grid.
