Posted December 28, 20222 yr Hi all, Just installed a Mercer SOL-I-AX-5VP /Axpert VP 5000-48, having issues with error 8 once the battery is fully charged. Does anyone know the PIP model for this or or know which software will be compatible? Installation has no PV, just a Mercer M48100(same as Dyness A48100) connected. Thanks!

Does anyone know the PIP model for this I believe it will be equivalent to a PIP-5048HSE, or perhaps a PIP-4048HSE if it's very old. Quote or or know which software will be compatible? Monitoring software is Watchpower or all the usual third party products. If you mean firmware, I've never seen firmware for one of these. The PWM models are far less popular than the MPPT models. Fault code 08 is usually due to leakage from panels in the high voltage SCC models. Obviously, that can't be the case here, with no panels, and PWM models are inherently low voltage (typically 105 V max for nominally 48 V models).

Thanks so much for the info, I bought it from Mustek and didn't think much of the PWM as I'm just using it got battery back up. I'm going to try to have Mustek sort it out, otherwise will ask for a refund. The error is very strange, whilst the battery is charging or there's no Utility power, it works fine, as soon as there's utility and the battery is almost full, the Error 08 occurs repeatedly. I think there's a battery compatibility issue too because the battery level on the inverter is also far off, despite setting the battery parameters to spec. Thanks again for the help!

So they make a crude guess of state of charge assuming it's a lead acid battery, so the guess is almost completely useless. An external coulomb counter like a Victron BMV will help, if you end up keeping it. Or third party monitoring software that can talk to the BMS.
January 22, 20232 yr Author Thanks so much, I managed to get the firmware update and haven't had a problem since. I'll upload the update for other users who may run into the issue
March 9, 20232 yr Hi Shark111 Experiencing the exact same issue with the same inverter but coupled to an averge/leoch lfeli-48100 battery. Would you be so kind as to share the firmware update, please Thanx

March 10, 20232 yr I note that the "P" in the model name indicates that it's a PWM model; that means different and incompatible firmware from the far more common MPPT models. Most people (not including me) prefer high voltage strings of panels; with a PWM model, you can only use one panel in each "string" (unless they are toy "12 V" panels). So most people don't have PWM models. Don't think "oh the model number is the exact same except for one letter right at the end, it must be compatible". EDIT: Sigh. I posted before examining the firmware. This seems to be a modern firmware that, unlike its predecessors, CAN handle either MPPT or PWM firmware (the Solar Charge Controller handles all the differences, as it always should have). This firmware also handles 5000 VA and 3000 VA models, both PF1 and PF0.8, and probably also 1500 W (PF0.8 only, i.e. 1200 W). Edit 2: These appear to be Axpert VM II models. I didn't think that Voltronic were producing these any more, but perhaps they saw all the clone makers selling many of them, and decided to copy the clones, as it were, with legitimate versions.
