Posted January 5, 20232 yr Can some body please advice me what that usb port on the side of the inverter is used for? Is there any way to connect this invertor to my wifi network for remote monitoring via pc or cellphone? Thanks.
January 5, 20232 yr Hi there. Could you post a picture for the community to see? I think this would really help. Sincerely Jay
January 5, 20232 yr Hi @Hendrik Viljoen, welcome to the forum! Most inverter suppliers have the facilities for Wifi/PC connection, but how you do so will change from inverter to inverter. As mentioned by Jay, a picture will go a long way to help identifying the unit. Otherwise, if you have the model/make and if the unit has a wifi mod installed that will also help a lot. For general info, most USB ports will be for comms to PC but not all cables work so if you have tried this already and it isn't working there is a chance its a cable issue (happens far more often than you think).
January 5, 20232 yr Author Thanks for the reply. Attached you will see some info from the manual, must say the comms works 100% via the serial RS232 port. Would just like to know if one can implemont remote monitoring via WiFi. Thanks. Sunmagic controller inverter.pdf
January 5, 20232 yr Ok, so usually Sunmagic do Axpert inverters but I don't recognize the one in the manual attached. If RS232 is supported, you can take the RJ45 to Serial cable they provide with the inverter and connect it to your PC via a USB to serial RS232 adapter. Please make sure you install all the relevant drivers for the adapter otherwise it will give you issues and won't communicate. Otherwise, you can try the USB port on the unit but make sure the cable used supports data transfer. (A lot of people will try this with a charging cable which doesn't work) As for wifi, I cannot say if this unit supports a wifi mod. If it were the Axpert type then you can usually get a wifi mod and link it to a mobile app. There may be some useful information regarding computer connection here:
