Posted January 16, 20232 yr Hi everyone, I purchased a Ryobi generator (RG-3500). It's rated at 230V and 10.7A. The sole purpose of this was to act as backup for my Sunsynk 5K system. I don't have solar panels yet, and our area sometimes suffers multi-day outages. The plan was to connect the generator to the inverter, and have it provide power enough for the house and for recharging the battery. All this happened in December, and yesterday was the first time we actually needed this, and the results were underwhelming. The generator delivered a total of 709W, of which nearly 400W went to the house and about 80W to the running of the inverter, leaving only a 220W trickle to charge the battery. I've been discussing this with the installer and Ryobi, and — as expected — they're both saying the other is to blame. The generator is rated at 10.7A, and the installer configured the inverter to draw a maximum of 6A (to compensate for altitude). At 230V, that should deliver 1380W, which is nearly double the delivered 709W. My question then, is what affects this? The generator can pull a 2000W kettle, so I don't think its output is the problem. How should the inverter be configured to draw the configured 6A? Or am I looking at this the wrong way?
January 16, 20232 yr How is this set up? Using Aux with a watt limit set up and Gen Charge enabled in your Time of use settings?
January 16, 20232 yr Author I'm not entirely sure what all that means, but let me give you the information I do have: The generator connects to a welding plug, and there is a big rotary switch to toggle generator input to the inverter. It is connected to the inverter's generator input. On the Battery Setup page, under the Batt charge tab, these are the settings: Both Gen Charge/Gen Signal are ticked, as are Grid Charge/Grid Signal The two fields on the Amps line are set to 6A and 40A, respectively. From what I understand, the first value (6A) is the generator charge current value. Float V = 57.1V Absorption V = 54.0V Equalization V = 50.8V So, trying to match this with what you asked, the generator is connected to the generator input, is limited to 6A (not a specific wattage), and Gen Charge is enabled. I hope that's what you needed.
