Posted March 22, 20231 yr Good day Power forum users. I am only using this Off Grid System for 3 months now and does not find any guidelines on the Internet. I am suddenly struggling with my BMS cable connection: My cable connection was as follows: Battery pin 1 to Inverter pin 3 Battery pin 2 to Inverter pin 5 I have set the Battery type to Lic on menu 5. Two weeks ago I have added 6 x Canadian 605w Solar panels. Everything was working fine… Suddenly from yesterday my BMS is not working and I am getting E61 communication error. The only Battery setting that works without Error is Flooded on menu 5, but the BMS is still not working.. I am desperate at this moment because nowhere I can find any guidelines on all the settings on the Inverter. I would appreciate it if there is someone who can assist me with all the settings on all the Menu’s. I would also like the the setting for the Solar panels to completely supply all the Watts needed from 09h00-15h00 daily. Looks like it is shearing Eskom power, which does not make sense during a Hot sunshine day. Regards

March 22, 20231 yr Author Hi I have the Manual, but there are different settings on different Menu’s I need to know what the correct settings must be for my set up.

This model has a known hardware problem with electrical noise from the solar charge controller affecting other parts of the inverter. Often it is the display, but it can also be the communications. Presumably, the extra PV power causes more interference. The effect presumably depends on the power available and the power needed, hence the two week delay. People have had success connecting a film capacitor across the PV terminals. This is a slightly tricky, slightly dangerous job, so only take this on of you know what you are doing. Search this forum for details. 6 hours ago, Bantam said: The only Battery setting that works without Error is Flooded on menu 5, but the BMS is still not working. You should be able to use value USE for setting 05 (or USER battery type from monitoring software). But you will then have to change the bulk, float, and cutoff battery voltage settings to suit your particular battery.
March 23, 20231 yr Author Hi Coulomb. I will search for the information… You don’t perhaps have the value ratings for the film capacitor… Regards
March 23, 20231 yr As far as I know the OGS5.6 & Dyness Combo make use of PYL because it uses Pylontech communications. I cannot verify your pin outs here but menu option 5 needs PYL to work properly. However, the PV noise is a major problem on this model. @BritishRacingGreenis working on a fix. However, Segen Solar will fix this under warranty. @SEGEN SOLARplease assist. Edited March 23, 20231 yr by Steve87

The post above says 18μF 600 VDC, but that would be giant. I suspect it's a typo and should say 1.8μF. I believe that the actual value of the capacitor isn't critical; anything around 2.2μF should be OK. It should be a film capacitor, X2 rated, at least 600 VDC rated. These are designed to "fail safe" by evaporating a small hole in the metallisation rather than exploding if a short develops. Perhaps best to get it fixed under warranty, but I understand that people aren't fond of losing days or weeks of use of their inverters in times like these.

My notes say that while Dyness uses Pylontech protocol over the CAN bus, when using RS-485, you have to use the LiC protocol. Voltronic only support the Pylontech protocol over RS-485, not CAN bus, even though they support other protocols over CAN bus.
March 23, 20231 yr I'm not sure neither do I follow the Dyness battery & it's config but I have 2 customers that are happily using RS485 PYL on OG7.2 machines. Well one is OG7.2 & the other is OGS5.6. Dunno if this is a different batch or what, but it does actually work on these 2 specimens @Coulomb
March 23, 20231 yr Author Hi there. I have tried the PYL on menu 5 but also giving E61 I am busy communicating with Kodak agents and they have sent my email to Dyness…. So hopefully I will get answers soon, and will post the results.. Steve87, Do you perhaps have the BMS pin configuration , or is it the same as my RS-485 cable… Thanks for all the input
March 23, 20231 yr Author Hi Steve That is exactly how I did my BMS cable… I have used the RS485A connections Pin3 to Pin 1 Battery Pin 5 to Pin 2 Battery Menu 5 on LiC Thanks
