Magetsi
Hi All I have finally decided to get Solar for the family. I had settled for a solution with Alumo which would have seen me getting 5Kw Sunsynk Invertor, 5Kw Sunsynk Battery, and 6 Jinko 475W Solar Panels. This seems like a reasonable proposition given the minefield of the solar world. My challenge is that Alumo does not work on slate roofs. Do you have any advice on slate roofs? My thinking is that if reputable Alumo is not keen on this, other smaller/individual installers may take this on and leave me with a leaky roof. Has anyone on this forum taken this challenge on the slate roof before? I am now considering buying from Solarway Suppliers, just not sure about the cost of installation from this company as associated risks. I am in Cape Town Southern Suburbs 5KW SUNSYNK CYCLONE C5 This Package Includes: 1 x Sunsynk 5kw Hybrid Inverter 10 x 425w Solar Panels 1 x Cyclone C5 5kwh Life Po4 Battery 100 x 6mm Solar Cable 1 x Ac Protection Box 1 x Pvc2 Combiner 10 x Mc4 Connectors
Bobster.
Slate presents challenges, but they are not insurmountable. I'm not an installer, nor very handy, so the best I can suggest is to search the forum for "slate".

Steve87
Pity you so far away. I enjoy working on slate. It's a special roof that presents challenges but really rewarding to work on it. I have carried out large projects as far a field as Hilton & we laid 20 odd panels on a slate roof & Hilton gets tins of rain & so far almost 6 months later without any leaks. Steve87
The secret to this roof is in the Bitumen. The slate is decorative the Bitumen is the waterproofing sealant.

Magetsi
One more question, i had a supplier provide a quote and the supplier refused to quote 545/550W Panels stating that these will not work with 5Kw Sunsynk Inverter, the argument was that the voltage for these will be too high. However i have received other quotes which included these. Is this correct?

If you want 10x 545/550W panels on a 5kw Sunsynk inverter, you'll have to run 2 strings of 5 panels each into the 2 MPPT's on the inverter. 1 string of 10 panels will exceed the maximum voltage, both on the Sunsynk 5kw and the 8kw models. Thank you. Makes sense. I understood it from this perspective that one can create strings and make sure each string does not exceed maximum voltage and also not exceed maximum current. I did not worry too much about this before. I suppose that is what we get from our jungle.
