How do I use GEYSERWISE to run my solar heating and power the element from ESKOM(GRID)

Looking for guidance.

I have a 150l geyser installed with a solar water heating panel on my roof , managed by a GEYSERWISE system and a circulation pump.

I want to keep my GEYSERWISE and pump on my Solar/battery system but run the heating element in the geyser from GRID-Eisdom .... ??

At present all power to the system is ESKOM, I'm looking to split it .... EKISDOM - Element ; SOLAR/Battery - pump and Geyserwise ....

HAS ANYONE DONE THIS SUCCESSFULLY ?

If so guidance re-process it welcomed ....

thanks

I have the exact same requirement. 🙂

One option is to pull a separate plug from the DB for the circulation pump, or attach it to another plug line in the roof. My DB is full and very inaccessible for new wires, so I can't to the former.

Alternatively, if I can't link it up to an existing line (like the isolated shaver plug in the bathroom below), I'll probably use one of my now redundant 12V gel batteries with a charge controller to power the geyserwise and circulation pump.

The control board for the geyser wise only has one input which is then split to the Pump and element.

I went the route of purchasing a replacement board for my geyserwise, this allows for WiFi control of the element, I now have automations that dump excess solar into my geyser based on SOC/Potential Solar for the day. Shop around, I paid R800 a few months ago at a local plumbing store in Fourways.

thanks for the clarification @spotity, I wasn't aware the geyserwise is an inline device. This complicates my life 🙂

At the moment the geysers are not on my essential circuit, so until I connect this to my essential side, and I get the wifi capable unit, I'll manually dump excess PV to the geyser (if the grid is connected)

@Russell V You might be interested in the Geyserwala Connect. It is a drop in replacement for the Geyserwise display PCB. The Geyserwala Connect is WiFi enabled and designed to be integrated into home automation. I provides a direct MQTT and JSON REST API, and there is a Home Assistant integration. It will operate as a self standing unit, and then you can choose how much or little you wish to automate. Of particular interest to you might be the lowpower-enable signal. This allows you to keep your geyser system powered but logically disable the element, during load shedding for example. This way you can gain extra hours of daytime pumped solar heating during load shedding, and you are protecting your solar collector from extreme temperatures that result when the system is completely off. As an optional extra you can link your device with the Thingwala console and get internet remote control of your system, e.g.: https://app.thingwala.com/geyserwala/demo

thanks , am looking into this as well ....
