Steve87
Finally, I have had the chance to explore the Solis S6. I have some very interesting information to share. Takes some getting used to having no display or touchscreen...Was it needed absolutely not. It took some time to get used to it but, when using your mobile phone as a local direct Bluetooth connection it just makes a lot of sense that there is no money wasted on a display. It took quite a while to figure out how to pair the device to the Solis cloud application but we got there in the end through some perseverance. The SVolt battery also just paired very easily with a straight 1:1 cable CANbus & Pylontech. I noticed a cable tray that almost is identical to the Sunsynk/ Deye 8kW inverters. However, the inverter seemed to have a higher quality of components. What was especially interesting was a sim card embedded as well as an antenna. I haven't fully exploded all the options on this Solis but it does seem like there is some GSM type of connectivity option for that Sim card to be present. The large Battery LED as well as other warning & information LEDs make for a good idea as to what is taking place on the inverter. I look forward to many more of these S6 units and I'm so glad there is another option on the market other than Sunsynk & Deye. Best of all no 6 weeks wait time of there is a problem with the inverter. This was a first look see install & from what I saw I really see quality & simplicity. zsde, WannabeSolarSparky, Gerrie and 1 other

Steve87
Not an excuse at all to excuse my poor grammar and spelling...Long days on a site especially when its been 30++ degrees unusually so for this time of year. But i try my best to share an experience especially while the ideas and feedback are still fresh in my head. I need to maybe take a day or two to get some rest before i post... That sentence is perfectly understandable in context, I just found it extra entertaining.

Stephan van Tonder
Thanks Steve. This is my install and I am very happy with it so far. Just about on a week now. The equipment seems really good quality and it just works. Yes the initial setup with getting the wifi connected seems to be very counter intuitive but we finally got there. The solis cloud also now has time based settings but we basically chucked those out after day three when we went full export mode for all the excess solar. The ability for the inverter to run a full essential and non essential was what I wanted in the first place. It does it perfectly. Some of my friends was terribly worried about the no fans. Well the highest temp I saw this far was 58 degrees on a 34 degree day while i let it fill the battery from grid at 6000 watt. I am really impressed and very happy with the machine this far. Then that little slimline S-volt battery was my second surprise. It was cheap and it is really impressive how you can charge that guy. Definitely a 1c battery and the comms was just straight from the word go. We just selected the pylontech protocol and voila. Done. I have seen three days of easily just over 4000 watt output from the panels as well and what I paid for those from leroy merlin definitely made those worth while. All and all very very happy. I also managed to get solar assistant working on it with a R- pi 4 via the modbus. They don’t have modification support for the solis yet but metrics are working. Will look at home assistant and the dashboards soon. Once more thanks to steve and his team, great great guys to work with and it all just worked. COC done as well and really just happiness. Today we exported more to the grid than what we used in the house. Scorp007

Sidewinder
@Steve87, "Long days on a site especially when its been 30++ degrees unusually so for this time of year. " refers..... I feel your "pain". I recently installed 10 x 400W PV, all in one day, and despite drinking copious amount of water, getting up at 5am the next morning for my daily run was torture! Took me a day to recover from all that. @Stephan van Tonder, I'm intrigued to see you are charging you battery from the grid. That's something I've never managed to achieve in 3.5 years. But yes, horses for courses, I have enough PV and (almost) enough batteries
Stephan van Tonder
I literally charged the battery from the grid once to get it full before loadshedding hit us and just to see what it will soak up. Rest of the days so far has been off Pv. Last night took us down to 63% and with solar this morning at 09:00 it was full. I have no intention of paying escom to charge the battery zsde and ibiza

I've found connecting via wifi it stops the Solis cloud receiving the data...
Stephan van Tonder
Hi shocking, 8 x panels in a single string onto one input. mine is the S6 pro. Fantastic machine honestly. Cannot fault a single thing so far. Just does what it should sam79 i used the rs485 network port, pins 4,5 and then used the pi usb connector they are available at solar assistant.
