OK, So lets say I have around 60 100ah deltec batteries I want to recycle but get the best return on....  Where can I do that in Centurion area? And what kind of return can I expect? It could fund some solar kit after all...

It is linked to the going lead price.

I once got paid R9.25 per kg - so 60 batts at about 30kg each = +-1800kg at say +-R9 per keg = +-R16 650

1.8 tons of batteries - not bad.

So phone a coupled of places to get the best price.

Once handed in batteries to www.battery.co.za here in Cpt, about a R1000 worth ... still waiting to be paid. They ain't seeing me again!

Now I use scrap metal dealers.

In KZN we have a local Scrap Dealer who will collect (saves the cost of transport & labour), but it is at R6/kg - Still, managed to get some weekend party money for 140kg worth of even melted batteries and a few 7Ah from fences and gate motors. Taking them to a scrap dealer might get you R7.50 at the moment. Anything better will be for drained & cleaned lead, where they don't have to worry about the removal of the Sulphuric Acid and maybe even no casings.

Deltec 100Ah are about 20kg each (up to about 25), so even at R6/kg... 60batts x 20kg x R6 = R7200. Don't accept anything less!
