ThatGuy_ZA Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Hi all I've recently got a Mecer 1200va inverter and would like to change the fan for something quieter. It looks like a standard 80mm 3 pin 12v fan so I was thinking of getting a quiet Noctua fan. Has anyone here done something like this before? TIA Quote

Check the "Fan replacement and direction" section of the index (first post) of the AEVA PIP-4048MS topic. In particular, this one, titled "Original fans put back, due to the fan locked warning issue." You might have better luck, or might not care about the occasional fan locked warning. Also, the 1200 VA models may well have different fan lock hardware and/or firmware, or may not check the fan speed at all. Quote
Allie_B Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 I'm also keen on changing the fan, will be interested in following this thread. I'm getting mine sometime next week buy I've heard the 2400va before. Does your 1200va fan switch off after full charge or remain on? Quote

I cracked mine open to have a look around and it looks like it doesn't have the normal 3 pin connector (or pinout) to normal desktop fans. 6 hours ago, Allie_B said: I'm also keen on changing the fan, will be interested in following this thread. I think the gen 1 units didn't turn off but this is the newer one. Quote
Chickenlip Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 I also have the Mecer 1200va and has been charging the battery since 8pm last night it is now 9pm the fan has not stopped once in this period. We have another one also running its fan 24/7 this house sounds like a data center. Quote
Chickenlip Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Tried changing the fan to something quieter and the inverter did not like it very much. It started beeping uncontrollably Quote

Chickenlip Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 (edited) Is there any way to disable this? The fan i used was a CPU cooling fan, I don't quite understand why it would cause this issue since the only difference between the two fans is the amperage. Two of my colleagues have this same inverter and reckon the fan does quieten when battery is charged. I have two 33ah Gel batteries run in parallel that have been charging for days, surely this is too long? Edited March 25, 2019 by Chickenlip Quote

It seems a little crazy to restrict a product to a small number of non-standard components. I've had thoughts of generating pulses from a 555 timer chip, but it just seems a silly amount of work for something that should be so simple. Quote
Chickenlip Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Its quite strange that a fan could disable the entire system. I mean what if it failed, these things dont spin forever and i would hope a replacement is readily available Quote

I just got a new one (2022) and the fan stays on the entire time. It makes even more noise while it's charging, but the default On state is still really loud. Is yours IVR-1200MPPT? Thanks. Quote
Barnieb Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 Does anyone else have the problem of a wobbly fan on the mecer IVR-1200MPPT, on my second unit now and its the same as the first one... Woowoowoo noise is driving me crazy. Quote
