Job Opportunity: Electrical Technical Advisor – Wind Farm Commissioning

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Technical Advisor to support the commissioning phase of a wind farm project in South Africa. The successful candidate will oversee electrical commissioning activities, ensuring technical compliance, safety, and quality across all systems, from wind turbines to substations and BoP infrastructure.

  • Workplace: Port Elizabeth

  • Project: Wind Farm (commissioning)

  • Beginning: June 2025

  • Duration: 12 months

  • Assignment: full time

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all electrical commissioning activities on-site (LV/MV/HV systems).

  • Ensure proper execution of testing procedures: IR, continuity, polarity, earth testing, primary/secondary injection, etc.

  • Collaborate with OEMs, EPC contractors, and site teams to ensure safe and timely energization.

  • Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshoot issues during commissioning.

  • Review and validate commissioning documentation and test reports.

  • Monitor progress and ensure alignment with project timelines and HSE regulations.

  • Participate in FAT/SAT and interface with utility/grid operators for grid code compliance.

  • Support final documentation, punch lists, and system handover.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 5 years in commissioning of wind farms, substations, or similar large-scale energy projects.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems: switchgear, transformers, protection relays, SCADA.

  • Proven experience in on-site supervision and technical advisory roles.

  • Familiar with international standards (IEC, SANS, etc.) and HSE practices.

  • Ability to read electrical drawings and interpret test results.

  • Fluent in English; other languages are a plus.

  • Available for site work and flexible working conditions.
