New to Solar No Amp reading on the inverter charger

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

Thank you for this forum.

The knowledge shared is most helpful and I am learning a lot.🙂

I am a newbie to solar and have been struggling with a problem since I setup the solar 🤨 so I would really appreciate some insight as to what I am doing wrong.

My installation setup is as follows:

1 x Mecer Inverter Charger 5kva, new  purchased from Mustek. Model Name: SOL - I - AX- 5NB. Firmware version: V1 71.50 (See photos attached)

8 x Solar panels 330 W, new connected in series.

4 x 688 200 AH Dixon lead acid batteries, new

The problem I am having is there is no Amp reading from the solar panels on the inverter charger display.

The inverter shows Amps and Volts  from the batteries and Volts from the solar panels but no Amp reading from the solar panels.

The inverter also does not seem to charge the batteries from solar panels.

The inverter when connected to the solar panels (in series) with a basic load (office computers etc.) seems to discharge the batteries to a certain level and then kicks into the utility power to charge the batteries.

Initially I thought maybe one of the Solar Panels was faulty, so I did some trouble shooting.

I connected each solar panel onto a small charger 12v, created a load on the small 7ah battery to test the panels .

On this set-up I was able to run a large electric fan (the load ) and charge the 7 ah battery via the solar panel(s) at the same time.

I am not sure what else to trouble shoot?

Is a firmware update perhaps a solution to this ?

Is there any other trouble shooting I can do to figure this out?

Sorry for all the questions, I really need to get this solar system working so any advise would be most appreciated.

Thank you kindly in advance.

Have a great day!🙂

Best regards,

Vee

There is no display screen showing actual PV panel current. The one that looks like it is actually net battery current sourced from solar, after battery discharge current is taken off. In the manual, it's called something like "MPPT charging current". It's MPPT output current, on the battery side, not the panel side as many users expect. If all that PV current goes to supporting the load, this figure could be zero, despite plenty of panel power being used. Check the nearby "MPPT charging power" screen; it tells you the total PV power, regardless of whether it goes to the load or battery or some of both.
