Unknown error code OT on Infinisolar

InfiniSolar can beep even if there's nothing really wrong. For example, depending on the configuration, it will beep if it's running from batteries while AC grid is disconnected. Same like UPS.

"OT" code sounds strange, because all the codes are numbers normally - can you take a photo of the display?

BTW - I would run SolarPower on the laptop and connect it to the inverter as the error codes are being shown in plaintext in this application.

Hi @clive18

Coulomb nailed it - it really looks like the "Over Temperature" warning.

According to the original InfiniSolar Plus 3K manual, the inverter should display "WR" for any warning event. This is very different from InfiniSolar Super 4K or Plus 5K and 10K, where every warning has it's unique number. Over Temperature is #12 then, see the last screenshot.

But I know that since the original release, there was a hardware change in InfiniSolar Plus 3K to fix some issues with the product. So, it is very likely that together with the HW change there was a new FW released too. And this FW release changelog did not made it into the User Guide. That would explain why the inverter is now able to show these warning codes but it's not covered in the User Guide.

  1. I would suggest you to connect to the inverter via an USB/RS232 cable and SolarPower software, as the warning text will be logged in this tool. Old version of the SolarPower is on the CD that came with the inverter. A new version can be downloaded from here:
    http://www.ostrovni-elektrarny.cz/support/Voltronic/SolarPower_1.14SP2_windows.zip

  2. According to your display, the inverter is in bypass mode, and it's not making any AC power. It's just charging the batteries. It's highly probable that once you disconnect it from the AC, the loads will die.

Hi.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I connected my laptop, and it is an "Over Temperature alarm".

It says its at 90 degrees, which sounds too hot.

The fans on the top seem to be off, which is worrying.

I think I should have this seen to before something really melts down inside.

Any recommended repairers out there? I am in Joburg.

Thanks

Clive

Hi.

Just for sake of completeness, if anyone else is having this issue, I solved the problem by taking a vacuum cleaner and cleaning the 4 top vents of the inverter which were clogged up with a thick layer of dust.

I thought there were 4 fans on the top, but they are just vents which were clogged up, and did not allow the hot air to escape.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Clive
