Bobster.
Hi all, Prior to going solar, I used a UPS with 2 x 100 ah lead/acid batteries. This would keep one fridge and our front room going for a few hours. I still have that device, and I'm thinking about whether or not to sell it, or to keep it as a last line of defence. Currently it has mains input, but no load. What is the best way to ensure good battery life here? I'm fairly sure that unplugging it and sticking it in the garage is not the optimum method. The batteries (deep cycle, not sure of the brand) were replaced last December by Maiden Electronics in Midrand.
Guest
On a UPS all you need to do is keep it plugged into a AC socket and switch it all on, then let it sit there. It will keep the batts charged.
Ingo
You could add (hack in) a balancer to extend the battery life. I have it on my Garage motor UPS and it's been running for 5 years now and still going.
