Why should there not be an N-E bond?

  1. The inverter will register an Earth Fault.
  2. If there is an Earth and Neutral bond on the incoming supply and you create one on the Output as well, effectively you will connect your input Neutral directly to your Output neutral.

A few Brands have a Neatral-Earthing Relay that will bond the two in the event of a power failure, but also not allowing it to bond while the Grid is available. If any bonding happen, its should only be during a power failure, either by way of an internal relay, or an external device.

Thanks Jaco. This is for an off-grid installation. There is no utility connected. Only a gennie on the input which will be used if battery is empty. So there is no N-E bond on the input.

Are you saying that even for this off-grid application N-E should not be bonded on the inverter output?

Hi Nuno.

VMII and VMIII never ground neutral. Which is your model? Is It an OnGrid system?

According to this post, the VMIII will never ground the neutral by itself. So is having the neutral voltage floating acceptable then?

Personally i will not bond it. What happens when you start the gen, the gen will also be earthed so again you will have the Input and Output neutrals connected to each other.

Maybe some other member know of a way to make this work, but I have never bonded any earth and neutral on the output of any inverter.
