Another newbie with a million questions. 5kw grid advice

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new here, read a lot, dont always (most of the time) understand all the technical jargon, but I think I have narrowed down my goals and a few items I have in mind.

Goal is saving some money in the process, not having the inconvenience of our dearest eskom and giving them a half mast finger with a grid tied solution, a 7-10 kwh lithium battery bank (2.4x3 or 3.5x3 pylontechs), (still need to check panel dimensions to confirm how many of which 330-400w panels I will need), but lets say 18x330w. The Goodwe ES 4.6 seems to be highly recommended, but today I saw the 8kw sunsynk hybrid. I dont necessarily need a 8kw inverter, but for slightly more than the Goodwe, it might be good value for money. Opinions?

All local companies in Bloemfontein that I contacted want to sell Victron to me, but with some convincing they quoted on Goodwe, canadian solar panels and for the life of me they insist on BYD batteries. Now, I fully understand everyone need to make money, but within reason. They were +-10% more expensive on the inverter and panels compared to a quick google search for online suppliers. Surely they should be able to get better pricing than me and still make a decent margin?

I would much rather prefer making use of an installer providing an all in service, than me sitting with a number of suppliers and a service provider I need to contact in case of any potential issues. Are there installers you can recommend (with experience with the above inverters) that will travel to Bloemfontein? Would installers do the work even if I buy the major components?

Which online supplier can you recommend with exceptional service and after sale support? I dont need the cheapest option, I need the one that will help me solve a problem should one  arise.

I am sure some more questions will come as as we go along.

Depending on how quick you want to install, I might be available after mid Jan to travel a bit.

Some will, but you will need to sort out all issues with hardware should it arise. Few if any installer will get involved in warranty claims on equipment they havent supplied.
