Axpert king vmiii Fan runs constantly

Hi just installed new vmii king less than a week ago.   Excited about the upgrade from the old 4k unit.

My problem is the fan runs full speed continuously.

If I switch the unit off and on the fan ramps up and stops but in about 30min it is running flat out again.

This is with very little load on.

This is not normal right?

Is there a fix?

The Axpert VM III is a different model to the Axpert King. The King has zero transfer, and is parallelable to 9 units; the VM III has neither.

I assume you have a VM III then. This is a "value line" model, and one of the areas of cost cutting seems to be the control of the fans. One of them seems to be on/off only; the other seems to be able to be speed controlled, but only under certain conditions.

I know very little about the VM III model. Perhaps other owners could chip in with their experiences.

Hi Coulomb, thanks for your reply, that is correct it is a vm3 not a king.  It does seem to ramp up the fan when first the inverter is turned on.

It ramps up the fan, then slows down and stops, then in a in about 20-30min it starts again and then runs flat out continuously.  Is that normal then?

Thanks,  there must be something wrong with mine then. It seems to be fine until there is a load that ramps it up,  and then for some reason it runs continually.

Wonder if it is a firmware problem or a hardware problem?

Does anybody have a firmware update for vmiii or know were I can get it?

Which firmware version do you have?

I've had the same issues with the fans and solved it by upgrading with attached files.

The most recent  Version I have is main-CPU 41.07 and bluetooth  00000.21

Attached you'll find the firmware archive along with the necessary installer for windows.

I did the MCU upgrade first, after that the control panel. Use a good serial to usb converter.

Some cheap ones do not work!

When upgrading, keep in mind that the converter shuts off the power towards the

end of the upload. So always use a notbook with charged batteries, otherwise your upgrade

will fail and you'll have to debrick the unit...

@coulomb pointed me to some posts where you can see a more recent version (41.14 and 0.24),

so if anyone here has a more recent version, please upload it or send it to me.

Hi Data, great thanks for the info, will try it today, will let  you know what the outcome is.

Did check the version current U1 41 14

Also have some more info, after a few cloudy days, it hasnt done it.

(Have and external microcare mppt, not using the build in mppt.Bulk charge is set to 60V as my flooded lead acid is nearing the end.)

Noticed it seems that when battery bulk charge reached over 58v the fan starts running and then does not turn off again.

Maybe the other firmware will work better.

I note that the GK fan spin program zip file above contains U1 version 41.07, i.e. earlier than what you have now. I also note that there is no way to get back to 41.14 if you flash it to 41.07.

It also contains a fairly old removable display firmware, version 02.08. That's also likely considerably earlier than the one you have now, although that one you can probably update, since it's the same as the Axpert King removable display firmware, and several versions of those are available, up to 02.49.

So I don't recommend you downgrading to that firmware.

small update, I have a second VMIII with firmware U1 41.19  U2 2.65 and fans are working normally (run only if AC load and speed depend of load).

Where did you get the 41.19 and 2.65 and can you provide us with the link? Thanks in advance.

I got the same problem than Andrewj and same version (U1-41.15 U2-2.40 U3-0.24) Axpert VIII 5kva
Where is it possible to get firmware 41.19-2.65 or more recent?
It should be possible to do a backup on a new machine and post it.

Thanks in advance

OK, but what version of main (U1) firmware are you running? It's possible that only firmware in a certain range has the problem.

I haven't gotten around to uploading it. It's available from this site in the Czech Republic:

https://www.ostrovni-elektrarny.cz/support/Axpert/FW/  (last few entries pertain to VM III models).

It's not possible to extract existing firmware from an inverter. To do it, you would need slightly specialised equipment and software, not too hard, but also a security number (a string of some 32 hex digits). I'm not aware of that security number being available anywhere. The manufacturer wants to keep it that way, so that clone makers can't easily steal their firmware to use in their competing products, without having the very considerable development expense.
