anes
how to calculate rail span using unirack SOLARMOUNT i do not know structural engineering concepts so i need your help from where i can find
Gerrie
I see unirack has a data sheet with their specifications, their rails can handle a weight of 103kg and their L-brackets can take 200Kg on a straight downward force, if you tilt it on a angle you can only load it to about half that 49Kg for rail and 100Kg for bracket. The bigger solar panels weigh about 20Kg each, so if it is mounted across two rails it is only 10KG per rail per meter. You would need to recon in wind force I would think a safety factor of at least 2.5 for the rail and bracket capacity. So spacing brackets at 1 meter intervals along the rails should be ok. But if its for the windy Cape Town the above safety factor should be reassessed.
