Solutions

  1. PsyWulf's post in Generator with ATS switch - preventing a drop in power when load-shedding kicks in was marked as the answer   
    If it works like most ATS it will instantly switch to whatever source is available once primary is off so pre-starting genny *should* instantly change over when Eskom drops
    I have Eskom on the ATS as a failover if my inverters trip,and the switch is seamless
