Hi.

I have a 3kva\2.4kw 24V inverter with a lithium battery. I would like to add some solar to charge the battery hopefully run my devices if there's sufficient solar. On my inverter is all my plugs and lights...no stove/oven, geyser, pool pump, washing machine or kettle. My average load is about 800W.

My inverter PWM charge controller can take 1200W solar and according to the manual VMPP is 30-32V and open circuit voltage is 60V.

My question is what parameters must I work within to spec panels? I hear people talk about overspec your panels. Is this wise?

I've asked for quotes for panels and installers insist the panels they have is ok. But these are usually in the range of 355-380W per panel and the VMPP is always more than my system. Is it ok if the operating voltage of the panel is outside of my inverter range?

What other specs must I look out for when buying a panel or can anyone recommend a panel/supplier.

Let me know if you need more info. I am in Cape Town.

Thanks.
