giggsie
Good morning Power Forum Members I have been a member here for the last 3 years while reading up and most importantly saving up before embarking on my Solar installation which I have somewhat begun with the purchase of a 2nd hand GoodWe 5048D-ES 2 months back. I am now at the point where we have the funds to buy some of the Pannels and batteries to get us started and then start to look for installers to quote on the installation. My goal with this post is to share the ideas I have in my mind and draw from the experience of the members on this forum. please feel free to make suggestions/comments on what needs to be addressed so that I save myself some heart ache and school fees. Here Goes: Solar Panels and PV Components So, I began with measuring out our roof space to see how I could optimize/maximize the area I have at my disposal. This was a painstaking process (Hours and hours and hours in SketchUp and reading the spec sheets for different panels) as I went through all the different manufacturers and sizes to find the best fit. Here is what i landed on: JA Solar and Canadian 360W to 380W Panels Landscape configuration x16 Jinko 470W/475W Panels in Portrait configuration x14 I was really keen on the All-Black option on the Canadian Solar and JA's but stock availability is an issue plus I can get the Jinko's for around the same price. Jinko Solar Panel Tiger 470W Mono-Facial – Solar & Inverter Warehouse (inverter-warehouse.co.za) I have included a snapshot of the roof install Panel Layout below and welcome any comments and advice. this section of the roof is mostly north facing with only the small section bottom left with shading in the morning hours. As a start I am looking to buy 8 of the Jinko's and then add the extras at a later stage when we have the extra funds. I have already built 2 in 2 out PV Combiner box with 4x ZJ Beny fuses (Looking to use 15A fuses in these) as well as 2x ZJ Beny SPD and 2x ZJ Bent 2 pole 63A DC Isolators. and my idea is to use 6mm Solar PV Cables from the Panels to the inverter. Batteries On the batteries I have tried to use the list of supported GoodWe Batteries to drive my choice here. I have worked out that our house idles at between 350 and 500W over night and with running the TV, Laptops and a few other appliances we should use a max of 9KW overnight. With this in mind I am favoring the following batteries: Dyness Powerbox Pro 10.24KW (85% DoD) x1 Dyness BX48100 (90%DoD) x2 Dyness BX51100 (80%DoD) x2 I also like the Dyness as they would save some money as i would not need to buy additional brackets or cabinets like i would with the PylonTech US3000C units. The trouble I am having here is deciding which of the 3 is a better option. I would ideally like to have the 90% DoD but my plan is to only run them down to 80% DoD in any case so not sure if I am just being pedantic about having the extra 10% for emergencies. I am leaning more towards the BX48100 as they have a smaller footprint than the Powerbox and this will give me the ability to add a 3rd at a later stage if I need the extra backup (I also like uniformity). Wiring inverter into the DB Here is where I need a bit more guidance and advice. Not planning to do this on my own as I want the CoC and insurance and warranties so will be looking for an installer to assist but I also don't want the clutter of Surface mount DB Boxes littered all over the wall. I have quite a bit of space available in the top row of our Main DB and if possible, would like to have the GoodWe Power Meter, Inverter Breaker, Change Over switch and Essential Loads breaker installed in this space. Does anyone know if this is allowed? I have asked this question on the following post and would appreciate any comments and advice here. Again, I am a fan of neatness and simplicity so don't want to be steamrolled into adding extra components if they are not completely necessary. This will also help me decide where we position the Inverter and battery bank and possibly look at chasing into the wall for flush mount options in preparation for the installation. I would also appreciate any recommendations for reputable installers who hold the qualifications to ensure the warranties of the equipment will be honored, who are reliable and would be willing to assist in performing the installation of the equipment above. Thanks in advance. Edited June 29, 2023 by giggsie Fix sentence wording.
