Is it possible to hook up a solar setup for the sole purpose of charging batteries to an existing 1000w inverter/charger unit with 2 105amh batteries?

Without something exploding or bursting into flames.

 

OR

Yes, it is. Get a MPPT, some panels, connect to the batteries and there you go.

Size of batteries and load will determine the array size which in turn will determine the MPPT size you need.
