Switching panel connections

I am busy with a panel installation and need to change between series connection and parallel connection of 4 panels at times when two of the panels will be 100% covered. I propose to do this with a limit switch and contactor. I am concerned about damaging the panels should they switch in full sunshine under load, can anyone advise if there is a procedure to do this safely please.
