  1. There are new rules coming in for solar registration from 1 October 2023 in Cape Town. They will no longer be accepting applications for standby SSEG. All applications will be treated as grid tied, Does anyone have any other information on these changes? CoCT not that helpful.
  2. I have a solar installation with solar panels, Sacolar (Goodwe subsidiart) inverters and batteries. I need to register my installation with the CoCT. We use the grid for backup when there is not enough solar and the batteries are low. My problem is that my inverters are not specifically mentioned on the CoCT list of approved inverters. I am confused as to whether this list applies only to grid tied inverters used to supply electricity to the grid and other inverters may be used if only used if not supplying to the grid. Can anyone advise please? Thanks Philip
  3. Yes I did. The original installation, performed by a "professional" installer grouped the three strings of panels into one on the roof. He then used a similar sized cable to connect to the fuse box with only one fuse in it. the cable from the roof was under rated for the current it was carrying. I resolved this by running two additional cable pairs from the roof to the fuse box so each string was on it's own circuit to the fuse box. I added two more fuse holders and fuses on which the strings terminated. The three strings only came together at the isolator switch. So each string carried about 10A. I used 15A fuses. Result is no heat or melted switches. I'm sure if I had not done this I would have had a fire. I hope that this helps you.
