Sunsynk 8kW / Freedom Won 15/12
Hi Steve87. Great looking installation! A quick query; I note that the installation is +-35m away. If possible, please advise on how you extended the CT coil cable. (I am currently finalising the installation position for a 5KW unit for personal use; DB in flat is also +-30m from envisaged inverter installation point in garage; I am struggling to find any info or guides on +30m CT cable lengths). Any insight on this would be appreciated. As an aside, I note that the inverter incoming supply line and the load essentially connect to a common neutral line (based on the installation guide). What are your thoughts on using single neutral from the inverter installation, (covering supply + load feeds), to the DB, or is it preferable/required to run separate/dedicated neutral lines for the feed and the load cables respectively? (I am looking at how best to limit cable runs and conduits required; if the neutrals for the inverter supply and load can be connected to an common bushbar close to the inverter position, and thereafter a single neutral cable run back to the DB, it may help simplify cable and conduit requirement). Any views on such would be appreciated. kind regards

Inverter & battery location ; CT cable length extension?
Hi,l all, Newcomer to PV and solar. Looking at having a system installed, essentially a battery back up system, exc PV at this stage (PV to be done in future years after body corporate replaces roof rafters). All PV works to be done by registered electrician. (Whilst I do general DIY, this is outside my area of competence). I am doing some homework (and personal learning), as a precursor to engaging service providers. Would appreciate some advice on the following. 1. Inverter and battery installation location I have read on FB Sunsynk forums that installations should be in a room with 4hr fire wall and ventilated, (typically garages / outbuildings), due to li-ion battery gassing and fire risk (?). I have seen conflicting comments and installations, where some are installed indoors (in living spaces). In my case the installation is required for a 1st floor flat, with the the DB in the kitchen and the garage 30m away. Option 1: Install in garage and run +30m cables lengths each from DB to inverter and back + CT cable. This would entail installing cables and ducts across common areas in the body corporate, typically along various garage roof eves. Option 2: install unit in enclosed open plan balcony in flat, in close proximity to DB. (Easiest in terms of cabling , but concerned wrt possible compliance issues). Option 3: Install inverter and battery unit on open/external fire escape staircase, back to back with DB; area is secure Ito theft etc; (Not sure if such is permitted or restrictions applicable, given fire escape. Building has internal and external staircases). Q. What sans code are applicable for the locating of inverters and batteries? Are installations within the main section of a home, or fire open escape permitted? 2. CT coil - extending cable length The sunsynk inverter comes with a 5m 22awg twisted cable with 100A/50mA CT, with a possible further 10m extension cable available. Is there a recommended way to extend such cable to 30m, whilst still ensuring accuracy of readings? Noted there cable needs to be twisted and its own conduit for shielding. I have seen references to using CAT5 cables but unsure if such would be acceptable given the length concerned. Any advise on above queries would be appreciated. kind regards, Essop
