Hi All
Thanks for clicking! Been reading around this forum for a while and finally decided to register and ask for some advice.
I am on a limited budget at this point so would like to keep my build as low cost as possible but on the same token not have regrets 3+ years down the line.
I live in a complex so a full solar setup isn't an option at the moment.
Kit i have so far:
1) Victron Multiplus II 48/5000
2) a Cerbo GX
Comfortable that this "should" last many years 🙂 and remains scalable for the future homes. My current need is basically 1x LED TV, 1x Defy Fridge, 8x LED lights and WIFI internet (should be around 500W if i add the labelled wattage on everything together). On the odd occasionally i hope to run my microwave off this setup as well.
I'd like to ideally have one battery to keep my costs down.
The part which has me stumped is getting the correct battery which fits into my scalability objective. Reading on the forums the horror stories around bad batteries, not charging, failed cells etc...
I've looked at the following batteries:
1) Pylontech Pelio 1C battery including cabling works out to R40k - feels like too much of a stretch on the budget https://onlineshop.gcsolar.co.za/product/pylontech-battery-pelio-5-12kwh-lifepo4-1c/
2) Growcol 1C battery from GC Solar https://onlineshop.gcsolar.co.za/product/growcol-lithium-51-2v-100ah/. they claim this is the same manufacturer as the pylontec but limited on the BMS side but will interface the same as the pylontec with the Multiplus
3) hubble AM-2 - R24K (Victron reccomends 2x AM-5s so that was ruled out) the drawback here is that i would have to buy a Cloudlink device (R3K) for official support from victron. the 10 year unlimited cycles is really attractive
Batteries without official Victron support
4) SVolt 48v - I see these range from 16500 on bobshop up to around 19500 from online retailers. they claim to be made by the Haval/GWM group but they dont have official support from Victron
5) Svolt 51.2v - I'm leaning towards this option as i have a takealot voucher... but same issues as the above svolt battery https://www.takealot.com/lithium-battery-51-2v-5-42kwh-lifepo4-battery-svolt/PLID94124060?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkKqsBhC3ARIsAEEjuJg5M1ZabJv__6_Na5DI9IyU54DofXzXnERXG_zr4tRrDDzXxvGhzyUaAj-oEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
6) Ecco 51.2v battery https://macsell.store/collections/inverter-batteries/products/51-2v-100ah-5-12kwh-lithium-battery-lifepo4-48-100mb16-ecco. the chepaest at R16500
7) Fivestar 48v 170AHBattery (R26K) https://macsell.store/collections/lithium-batteries/products/lithium-ion-fivestar-48v-170ah-8-7kwh-battery-lifepo4 The cheapest considering the size of the battery
😎 I've looked at Esener but cant seem to recall why i ruled it out
What battery would you recommend for my needs? any advice is appreciated. Primarily looking at cost, ease of compatibility, longevitiy on the battery. I was sold on hubble until i saw the cloudlink requirement which ups the cost a bit
