  1. Just wondering if there might not be something unexpected in the data. The battery power vs load power graphs seem too close to each other during the night compared to my experience with an 8kW Deye (which is basically the same hardware). I'm used to seeing battery power being a 5-10% higher than the load (or even more when load is low). Looking at last night, load power was at 180W, battery power was around 280W on my system while we were sleeping. I'm wondering if what looks like a load difference is really a reporting difference for load between battery vs grid scenarios?
  2. I managed to actually find the Government gazette with their latest published tarrifs. I'm assuming the tarrifs as ex-VAT, but that doesn't matter for any of the comparisons R270.23 monthly charge for the privilige of being able to provide power to the city R0.7851 per unit in credit applied (you can at best only cancel any of your actual use). I suspect the NERSA price was increased Assuming that credit can even be applied to the monthly charge, that means you have to export at least 345 units per month to break even for the fee. 🤯 After that you need to export 3.44 units for each one consumed to cancel actual usage (and that's assuming you don't consume more than 100kwH and hit Block 2 where it gets worse). So exporting from a domestic premises will just never work financially. Other supply types don't get additional fees added, but still

  4. Hi, We currently have a solar + battery system which currently has unused production, and I'm considering if SSEG route might be one way to utilise that production. Has anyone actually gone through the process and could confirm: Actual process required Cost of the new meter (latest articles seem to indicate in the range of R3.5k?) Actual Feed-in tariff as there seem to be conflicting sources of info for Tshwane With the cheaper meters, the actually looks like a more cost effictive way to get some use out of exxess capacity compared to adding an additional battery to charge and cover some of the current shortfall we draw from the grid early mornings.

Element definitely has a 3kW draw, but even with that could be an interesting experiment to see if pushing the temp a bit higher when running it on pure solar vs lower when just trying to get enough water for a shower early in the morning help with power efficiency. Think ours is a 200l Geyser, but it's also more than 10 years old so tends towards bigger element. Currently getting 75%-80% self-suffiency and if I can reduce power needed for it at the start of teh day that can be significantly improved.
  6. Awesome, was hoping it might be the case that it was in some sort of pocket. Would love to hear what you added. Currently the only thing that I'm considering doing (that would require draining though) is to replace the current 3kW element with a 2kW, because currently I often need to draw down batteries to run the geyser unless its absolute full sun at midday. Currently have an ASC Wifi breaker on the geyser that can control on/off and measure consumption, and might leave that in place for consumption measurement anyway.
  7. I'm looking at installing a Geyserwise onto an old Kwikot geyser to give better temperature visiblity and control, as this is running from an Inverter with Solar panels and battery. Do I need to drain the Geyser to install the new thermostate, or can this be done while the geyser is full of water (with power off of course)?
