Im putting together a smallish mobile workshop idea Ive had for a while now. I dont want to make use of generators so Ive settled on battery power with inverter and solar panels to help generate power.
So this is the basics ive put together thus far....
Rated Power consumption of power tool - 1500 Watts/KWh
Total time Electrical system will be operational per job – 10 min
Energy used per job – 1.5KWh /6(60minutes in an hour and 10minutes per job)= 0.25KWh
Assume 20 jobs per day.
20 jobs * 0.25KWh = 5KWh Power needed per day
Solar panel 430W * 2 panels = 0.86KWh - losses = 0.75KWh
Average Solar collecting hours – 5 hours\day
Average Energy collection per day – 0.75KWh * 5 = 3.75KWh
Batteries LIFEP04 LITHIUM PHOSPHATE 12v - 2 x 120Ah = 2.88KWh
So looking at my calculation above. I will use a total of 5 KWh of energy per day.
By installing 2 x 430W solar panels on the roof of the van and canopy I will generate in the region of 3.75KWh of energy per day.
If I have 2x LIFEP04 Lithium batteries @ 12V 120 AH fully charged in the morning I will already have 2.88 KWh of energy stored.
So my questions to the "EXPERTS" is as follows :
I cannot fit more panels to the system as space is limited and 2 x 430 W panels is about the max amount of panel space available
- Are my energy calculations correct?
- I dont want to waste money by purchasing too many batteries and then not really using them to their full potential and would rather add another in the future if need be but does my battery storage capacity make sense given the energy generation by the 2 x solar panels?
- I need an inverter/charging system that can actively charge the batteries whilst using the power tools. any recommendations?
- Apart from a BMS, cabling, inverter, charge controller...what else will I need and recommendations on everything needed?
- Inverter size if max Wattage is say 2000W
- Im also looking at a worse case scenario and would like to get input concerning the possibility of also charging the batteries via the vehicles alternator or fitting a second alternator and the pros and cons of this?
-lastly how would I fit all this together....basic schematic or suggestions?
Thankyou in advance forum experts....
