Proxicon Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 (edited) Hello, My kings tracker popped a transistor here in Cape Town after the last cold front by over volt cloud effect I used to run 3S 2P 415w Canadians for +- 1.3 years & recently added another 3S-1P JA 455w with a slightly higher volts rating (Feb 2022).. Looks like on the 05/04 at ~11:30 there was a spike where after the mppt was not happy anymore Symptoms are: relay connects, volt drops to battery volt @ 51v and then relay disconnects and tracker displays the open circuit volt. Rinse & repeat. So im guessing a transistor failed & was wondering if someone had a broken king with a working tracker I could perhaps buy as spares ? Its still generating energy but not even 50% of the 9 panels at the minute and the constant disconnects well, its not very useful at the minute at all Yes I have done the full off for a while without any sources, still the same. I have opened the inverter case and briefly inspected the tracker, I saw no popped cap or circuit blown. The inverter will be going off to the distributors for a repair quote but in the meanwhile I'm trying my luck here to maybe locate a replacement myself and attempt a self repair. Will be stripping the inverter a little more this afternoon in order to check if I can see a blown transistor.  Edited April 9, 2022 by Proxicon spelling Quote
Proxicon Posted April 9, 2022 Author Posted April 9, 2022 Removed the tracker, could not locate any obvious caps or transistors that looked bad (did not perform any test, just a visual check) could not remove the heatsink to inspect those 8x transistors (4x + 4x -), tried to remove the screws but the heatsink would not budge & appears suspended by the transistors , did not want to force it off.
