Do PV-Inverters require Type-B RCDs on AC side? What are RCD Types?

Featured Replies

In this video, we are discussing the requirements and rules for the choice of the RCD Type on the AC side of a PV-Inverter installation. Is there a mandatory Type-B requirement?

This is a topic which is highly complex and very dependent on the individual situation. Let's look into the details.

Wave Form RCD Types Explained
Type A – ideal for circuits using AC and DC power.
Type AC – trip on sinusoidal residual current.
Type B – respond to higher frequency current.
Type F – designed to provide protection against residual fault currents comprising composite frequencies.

Category "B" is more current sensitive, which means it's fast
And yes, you need a category "B" RCD

I didn't understand where the type B RCD is to be used, in an AIO Inverter.

Roland talks much about this subject, but I suppose DC leakage could occur from both the AC IN and AC OUT.

So where is it most important? Does it matter if the AIO can backfeed the grid ?

I would appreciate your thoughts.
