Hi, I am in the UK and looking for help and guidance.

We are limited here to 3.65kw export, however I have had sign off from my grid to have an upper limit of 5kw export. The roof is capable of taking 22/24 panels.

I have 3 options available to me if I use my preferred Sunsynk inverter.

3.65kw inverter which takes a 7kw PV (designed for UK apparently)

5.5kw inverter which takes 6500w PV (clipping at 5kw export to keep the grid happy) but my installer thinks i can get away with 7280w PV, I presume they are assuming for losses? 

Or the 8.8kw inverter, with 8000w PV (capable of 10800w but 8kw is sufficient), with electronic clipping of 5kw export.

There a lot of variables/unknowns here to make a simple recommendation. It's also comes down to economics and how much you feel comfortable spending:

- What are you trying to achieve? Since you are in the UK, it sounds like you are more likely wanting to take advantage of time of use tariffs/net metering to reduce your energy costs?

- What is your average daily consumption?

- Is there any battery storage in the mix as well or is this just a grid-tied setup (inverter and panels only)? If any power outage protection is on your list of priorities, 5kw or greater from the inverter point of view is probably more flexible for a typical household.

In all cases, maximising solar should be a priority given solar output drops like a rock when the sun doesn't shine (which I believe happens every so often in the UK 😀)
