Sizing 3 phase Sunsynk systems for pumps

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a farmer who is wanting to run a combination of borehole pumps from an off-grid 3-phase Sunsynk system.  The maximum power drawn from the combination of pumps will be 12kW, and the startup of the pumps will always be staggered.  So lets assume two 6kW pumps.

Would 3 x 5kW sunsynk inverters be adequate to start and run these pumps?  I understand that pumps surge up to six times their rated current on startup, I see that the inverters can deliver twice their power for short intervals.  Are these the metrics to use?  My sense is that the inverters might struggle a bit to deliver full current (and hence voltage), but is that really an issue?  It might just mean that the pumps take a bit longer to start.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
