Mixing different wattage solar panels

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I have a 8kw system (sunsynk) with 15kw (3 batteries of 5kw) battery backup (bsl). I got 12 panels installed 545w bifacial on my roof (JA Solar).

Now I am thinking of adding 4 extra panels to the system - firstly can i add them without breaking any VOC or current limits

Secondly can I add 4 higher wattage panels (bifacial but 600w odd of same company JA Solar) to the exiting panels - will it cause issues with inverter or generation or any conflicts

any opinions, advice, recommendations much appreciated

Thanks

You can add 4 more panels by adding 2 for each of the 2 strings.

No you will be wasting by adding 600W in series with the 545W.

Only with the specs of both panels can a meaningful reply be provided. Calculations need to be made to see if you CAN use 2 strings of 6 in parallel to the one MPPT and then the 4 new 600W panels to the 2nd MPPT.

Ok so I found a 575w bifacial panel from ja solar - the only issue is it's n type cell - would that be an issue

I am attaching the specs of both panels - I have circled the respective panel specs from JA Solar website.

I hope that provides enough info

Thanks
