Not necessary, the BMS in the Pylon is the battery monitor, the only nice thing about still having the BMV is that it calculates time to go (meaning with your current discharge rate how many hours will the battery last) you can of course do this easily with a few sums in your head, but some people just seem not to grasp it, and for them a BMV that provides time to go might just be worth it.
