Wanted: Electricity meters

Featured Replies

This is a little bit of an odd request, we're after Eskom electricity (prepaid) meters, dead or alive for some product dev.

We're trying to gauge whether we can reliably do pulse counting or kWh counting on a range of common Eskom meters. They use a few different variants, so we want to handle:
- Counting LED pulses, the usual 1000/kWh
- I.R emitters outputting some encoded readings
- The physical interface (ie: is there a metal ring to magnetically attach the LED reader, be it visible or IR)
- (Possibly) attempt minimum viable OCR on the display, though this would largely depend on how reliable this ends up being.

If anyone has available somehow, I'd be keen to purchase, even if they are broken/damaged etc.

Seems like some cool RnD. I would imagine the OCR method would be the most reliable.
