Forgot. Since the ABB is charging batteries, never push more power to the Deye / Sunsynk from the ABB than batteries can take (hence 90% limit as most BMS throttle at this point). My batteries can take 4kw up to 90% so I removed 2kw of panels from my ABB to keep batteries safe. Deye / Sunsynk cannot limit micro inverter input power and this is a risk.

I have an ABB 5kw UNO running through my Deye 8 Aux port. The ABB is seen as exactly the same as a micro-inverter. It' AC power coming in at ranging kw' depending on ABB power production. The DEYE / Sunsynk provides reference voltage to the ABB. The ABB's ability to handle riso matching is more powerful than Sunsynk / Deye so the ABB will synk very quickly to Deye Sunsynk Aux port. What you want to do works BUT it also has limitations that you need to understand. 1. Deye/Sunsynk will use the ABB to charge batteries. It uses a relay to open close aux port depending on your settings. Typically 30% to max 90%. Never go above 90% - EVER. 2. Latest Deye / Sunsynk firmware allows grid always on for Aux port running in micro inverter mode. This is temperamental at the moment and would only apply if you are feeding power back to grid. When loadshedding kicks in the Deye / Sunsynk can give an error and shut down. The reason for this is it takes the Aux port relay up to a minute to activate. Sell back to grid has to stop instantly in event of grid failure and the inverter seems to battle with this (newer firmware may fix in future). Putting the ABB to Aux port or leaving it upstream is therefore a USE BY USE case scenario. I.E. What do you want for your specific needs? If you are selling to the grid, leave ABB as GT upstream. ABB will be permanently on giving best ROI and will only be off during loadshedding. If Deye Sunsynk does use grid power, it will ultimately be using ABB power indirectly. If you want extra grunt to charge batteries faster and leave Deye Sunsynk panels to power house loads, then go through Aux port- being aware that when batteries hit 90% your ABB is turned off and you get no further use out of it. This scenario is more used in permanent stage 6 up scenario or off grid scenarios. NB: the Deye / Sunsynk must have CT clamp fitted upstream of mains breaker for any of this to work. Monitoring: Solar-assistant.io can monitor both inverters in this setup, but ABB is monitored indirectly via Aux power or CT clamp depending on your decision on how you integrate. Option (if you are using a sparkie who properly understands changeover switches.) You can fit a secondary change over to flip ABB between standard grid tie to main DB and Aux port. Not many have played with this. The issue here is neutral bonding and for 99% of people, the cost is simply not worth it.

Infinisolar comms for parallel inverter installation to Solar Assistant Pi
Hi All. I'm hoping that someone with some experience in Infinisolar installations (Comms specific) might be able to assist. Installation: 2x Infinisolar Super 4k's running in parallel. Parallel comms (9 pin rs232) installed and working fine. 3x Averge supplied Leoch 100ah batteries. Comms on RS485 b> and B>A and working fine. Installing Solar Assistant monitoring Pi. Orange Pi 3 LTS installed. Leoch battery comms working fine. Inverter comms not working. Challenges/Questions: The Solar-Assistant inverter cable is a USB to RJ45 RS232. The Infinisolar does not have any RJ45 RS232 outlets (only 9 pin outlets). I think I need to install a MODBUS card? My assumptions below (and questions for confirmation) Question 1: I think I need to install the Infinisolar MODBUS card in the Intelligent Slot on the inverter. This would give me an RJ45 RS232 port for the solar assistant cable to connect to the inverter. Is this correct? Question 2: Would I need a MODBUS card on both inverters? Or will the modbus card on master give me data on both inverters via existing parallel RS232 9 pin cables? Any help/advice from anyone running Infinisolars in parallel with comms would be greatly appreciated?! Finally, if anyone has working second hand Infinisolar Modbus cards gathering dust, please let me know if your happy to sell them on to me? Thanks, Andy

Inverter Repair - ABB Uno 5kw
Hi I had a hot connection on my Grid L cable coming into my ABB Inverter. ABB uses a Waco block which makes it impossible to know if the connection is tight or loose. It was loose. The connector block has burned out, but it appears that the MB is fine and no damage elsewhere (based on visual inspection only). ABB Internal diagnostics are only registering No grid connection, so I hope this is a replacement of the terminal Block only. Image below. Thumbs crossed... Question - who can recommend a good inverter repairer in JHB/Centurion/PTA area? I would like the Waco connector block for Grid power GLN replaced with a standard terminal connector block like those used in Deye/SunSync.

Feedback: Changed the strings a bit and now have string 1 running at 371v peak and string 2 running at 367v peak. (Gotta love DC Optimisers)... Both strings are now an almost perfect match on both voltage outputs, and at 369v +-2v common, I am well under the 425v indicated on the side of the inverter and 450v indicated as preferable max by many forum users, and also have plenty of margin for when panels boost volts at low temp coefficients... Happy and 1st inverter successfully commissioned. Again, a big thumbs up to everyone who chipped and and helped. Appreciated

Thanks everyone. Advice greatly appreciated. Will run final tests at midday peak sun with meter and do a last double check on wiring of entire house change over and inverters, then turn on inverters for first time 👍

Hi again and thanks for the replies. Most grateful. OK - I will get the installer to test Voc again this morning and make sure that Voc is under 450 per string. Another question. I know that Wattage varies during the day. How much is voltage expected to vary during the day. Does Voc rise with sun angles the same way Wattage rises? (or is Voc constant per panel?) Thanks, Andy

Firstly, I'm new to this forum - so Hello to everyone. I have a question on string voltage calculations, but some background first. I am removing my current GT ABB Uno as it does not support batteries and can no longer connect to grid as NRS is 2010 and not 2017. I have 10x 250w on string 1, and 12x 260w on string 2. (This is important as I'm concerned I might over voltage later). My new setup (installed but not commissioned). 2x Deye 5kw Hybrids in Parallel. The 2 existing PV strings to inverter 1 (Master) = 5600w = under the 6500max wattage supported by Deye 5kw & both strings under 50% of max. Two new strings (400w x 6 / 400x 4) to the second Deye (Slave) = 4000w = under 6500max wattage & both strings under 50% of max. My challenge (and lack of understanding). The Deye supports up to 500v PV input (or 100-500v as per manual specs). When I put testers on the DC strings during final inspection, I noted that string 1 (3200w/12 panels) is running at nearly 420v and string 2 (2500w/10 panels) is running at just over 330v. Not sure if this is important both both strings are running DC TS4 Optimisers on every panel due to shade issues. SOOOOO - My question: If the inverter supports 500v DC PV input, is this per MPPT or MAX (both strings / mppt's combined). If MAX, I am summing then that I am over paneled (even though under wattage) and I might damage the inverter? If per MPPT, then I am under max voltage and safe? SO - which one is it? I don't want to turn my inverters on in case I am over voltage on DC, and I cannot find an answer on Google - PLEASE HELP? Thanks, Andy
