  1. I have this problem. Not as scary swollen as some of the pictures, but the casing is definitely no longer flat, and recently it wasn't charging, and was giving errors. I haven't taken the battery to the supplier yet, but was wondering the process.
  2. Interesting, that looks very similar to my Fivestar 5kW inverter. The screen and buttons are identical, and the wording "Hybrid solar inverter". Mine also came with a wifi dongle and a QR code linking to the SmartESS app. I registered on the app and added my inverter as a device, but it is not showing in the device list. If anyone has any tips for using the app, I'd appreciate them.
  3. I've just got a Fivestar 5kW "wifi" inverter for R14500 (the wifi means it comes with an ability to track your usage), and a Pylontech US2000C battery for R16000. My electrician installed it, not sure exactly what he will be charging for installation but it won't be that much. It works like a dream to power 2 desktops, 3 laptops, all our lights, fridge and a small (100 litre) chest freezer. We didn't even change our bulbs yet for LEDs but are going to. I know that I have too few batteries for the inverter, but the price between the 5kW and 3kW inverter wasn't much, and I can grow my system later. I'm intending to buy solar panels first, electrician advised to get about 12.
  4. I got a Mecer 2.4KVa/1440W modifed sine wave inverter box with 2x100Ah batteries in March 2020. It worked well but 2 years later, the batteries are not lasting longer than 30 minutes (they used to manage 6 hours). I want to go lithium-ion when replacing, and am considering a Pylontech US2000 battery or possibly Blue Nova. My electrician recommended Pylontech, based on longevity. I also want to get some solar panels, and link the inverter into the DB board, linked to a subset of items. I would like to be able to upgrade later, but using the inverter I already have seems like a cost-effective solution, if it is possible. Unfortunately my electrician is having trouble getting an answer from Mecer as to whether the battery would work with the inverter. The inverter I have: https://mhn.co.za/shop/bbcomb2-4/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI06Dilqeq-AIVhpftCh0oyg8TEAQYAiABEgKNDvD_BwE) Possible battery: https://powerforum-store.co.za/products/pylon-us2000b-plus-2-4kwh-li-ion-battery-excl-brackets Anyone have experience with these 2 items, or know how to work out whether they would be compatible?
  5. In March 2020, I bought a Mecer 2.4 KVA box system, containing an inverter and two 100aH lead acid batteries (https://mhn.co.za/shop/mecer-inverter-2-4-kva-1440-w-with-housing-and-wheel/). We've been using it mainly for our computers during load shedding. We have 2 desktops and up to 3 laptops working off it. It used to easily cope with 4.5 hours of loadshedding in Jo'burg, lasting up to about 6 hours. But recently we've noticed that it is cutting out after just over an hour, and can't cope with even one desktop for the full 2.5 hours loadshedding. Since it's been over 18 months, and we haven't exactly been kind to the batteries, is it fair to say that the batteries have reached the end of life? I'm looking to replace the batteries with LiFePO4, but in such a way that possibly we could use them for a bigger system, and add solar panel(s) either now or later. If we could add the fridge (rated A++) and 100 litre chest freezer (A+) to our system, for at least part-time use, that would be ideal. My questions: 1. Can I use LiFePO4 batteries with my present inverter? 2. Recommended batteries? 3. Recommended solar panels? 4. Anything else to bear in mind (controllers etc)? Thanks!
